...that you see another beautiful porsche, or exotic, that you admire and wave to, and maybe too it has a beautiful woman driver that you drool over, and then it hits you... Damn, I'm driving my beater subaru today...if only I were driving my porsche now!
How come I'm never driving my porsche at those moments?

I see lot when I am in mine and I always find Porsche drivers to be friendly to each other. Kind of an auto fraternity. Always get the wave or headlight flash. I do sometimes see hot woman driving my burb and that does wrangle me.
Your thread opened up a great discussion . I presented your question to my girlfriend and we both agreed that we experience a lot of wishing we had the Porsche when we are driving the Honda .
1) Her Story -- A gas station attendant pointed out to her that the free sample of some type of car cleaning spray was good enough to use on some other woman's Mercedes yet could not understand why my girlfriend expressed that she did not him to spray it on the Honda .
2) My story - It seems like every meathead loves to peel out next to a Honda si . Usually i chuckle to myself and think of the Turbo sitting at home and how many of these same types of silly macho displays never take place. In fact when i drive the Turbo .. no one peels out .
In instances like those .. we wish we had the Porsche .

When we go to the supermarket, mall or movies it is very comforting NOT to take the Porsche .
So it works both ways.

I had a bad experience with a corvette drive last week
I was parked at a light in my range rover sport behind a corvette. I could tell my lights were shinning in the guys eyes so I was nice enough to turn them off while we were sitting at the light. When the light turned I turned my lights back on and tried to be nice by going into the other lane. The vette driver some how that I was trying to race him and takes off. When we got to the next light he shouts out me " Maybe when your a bit old you will be able to get a sports car" I simply replied that some day I hope to get a used corvette LOL.

.. the 997.2 for work (where there is a separate parking lot and I don't have to worry about door dings) and the 3.2 for the movies, malls etc where I don't have to worry about door dings given it's size (or lack thereof). As much as I echo yrralis1 thoughts..(he likes to keep the novelty feel of the 911's going forever, hence drives other cars too), I just could not drive something else when I had a 997.2 sitting in the garage. Hence for those "other trips" (and to satisfy my desire to own a purest example of 911) I got a 3.2. My problem is this when I drive the air-cooled I see the water cooled guys giving the looks and when I am in the water it is those air-cooled guys
. Now when I get into a Cayenne which will happen next Jan, it will be really interesting to see what reaction I get from the 911's (both air and water). Wonder why this is the case but I almost never see an air when I drive the air and the water when I drive the water and yes to answer your question I do miss my 911 (the one sitting in the garage on that given day).

Tim you are my hero
I tried so hard to convince the misses to get a cayenne so I would rarely have to drive anything other than a porsche but she was having none of it. You have to show me how to do these jedi mind tricks
