Ferrari 458

Looks like the Ferrari 458 Italia is on an awful lot of y'all's lists. I'd had the priviledge to drive an F430 Spyder - 6 speed and really liked the car, but it wouldn't have been on a list like this for me.

The 458, on the other hand, HOLY SMOKES!! Like (I'm guessing) the rest of you, I read the car magazine articles and looked at the pictures. I thought the car looked great in those initial articles and the write ups were good. But the first time I saw one live and in person on the street in New York, it stopped me in my tracks. What a beautiful, venerable machine.

Anyway, just curious, if the 458 Italia is on your list, would the F430 have been?

Oh, and BTW, thanks for playing. It's hugely entertaining to read everyone's list...and, inevitably, re-thinking mine.

You've got to have a purpose! I mean, how do you decide what to drive?

1. Vintage touring: Talbot Lago T150C SS (Teardrop)

2. Vintage racing: Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B

3. Porsche touring: Carrera GTS (904)

4. Porsche daily summer: Boxster Spyder or Turbo Cab...decisions, decisions. I need to drive both to figure that one out.

5. Porsche daily winter: 997 C4S Coupe

6. Exotic: McLaren F1. Black.

7. Street Toy: VTEC Mini

8. Track Toy: Ariel Atom 3

9. Comfortable long-haul car: Aston Martin V12 Vantage

10. Utility: Ford F150 SVT Raptor 6.2l

I think it's easy to pick the sports cars and exotics. From the Carrera GT, GT2RS, Maclaren F1, 458, Murcielago, etc.
The tough part is picking the ultimate daily driver or family driver. The CLS63? Bentley Continental? Maybe even BMW M5? Panamera Turbo?
My first line is sports cars to drive. Then there are sports cars just to worship. A Ferrari Daytona. Ferrari F50. Ferrari 250 GT California. Ah, there are so many if I had Jay Leno's garage...

This is my list that I title "screw it". It covers the major super/hyper cars and leaves no room for anything else. In my mind the Enzo could be replaced by any top tier Ferrari (458, 599 GTO...). The Maserati GT is because I love the way that car looks but it could have been replaced by a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren if push came to shove. I would be interesting to listen to why you would not have choosen one of these cars in favor for another. Keep in mind that this is the top shelf list and does not have anything OLD on purpose.

01 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
02 Pagani Zonda Roadster F Clubsport
03 Koenigsegg CCX
04 Ford GT
05 Enzo Ferrari
06 McLaren F1
07 Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SuperVeloce
08 Porsche Carrera GT
09 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale
10 Aston Martin One-77

3 -'78 Targa SC Arizona Blue
4- '88 911 Turbo coupe (930) whale tale Red

6- '87 959 with silly rally stickers
7- '05 Carrera GT Red
8- '07 Targa silver
9 -'11 GTS Convertible
10 -Porsche tractor.

My dream garage would require restored examples of the following cars:
  1. Yugo
  2. Rambler Station wagon
  3. Early '60s Desoto
  4. Ford Edsel
  5. Buick Vista Cruiser
  6. Corvair
  7. Chevrolet Vega
  8. Chrysler K car
  9. Ford Mustang II
  10. Pontiac Aztek
I now have a collection that didn't cost me an arm and a leg, that I'll never want to drive, I won't have to insure against theft, and can keep in an unlocked garage. Heck, I won't even need a garage, I could park them on the street with no worries.

Man, you fellas have some 'spensive tastes! My list is pretty short-

1) Daily driver - Porsche Cayenne S (or Turbo)
2) Track toy - Porsche GT3 RS
3) 'Vert - Lotus Elise SC (but this is completely optional)
4) Wife - a Lexus of some sort

So far, only got one out of four (wifey's car) ; well, maybe the GT3 counts as two
