That's what i was trying say earlier in the thread . At the 53K price range the seller loses interest --hence the dirty wheels . At least they got the color right and options listed --that's actually a good sign.

got it, for me its better to have an 06 cpo then an 07 non cpo, probably the best thing to do is ask for the DME ( thanks for letting me know that) check that and send an offer, probably they wont take it, but if so, just go down there and check out the car and the condition, the sales guy told me no scratches or dings, but looking at those wheels hehe..

Patience is key. The Holidays are just around the corner and the economy isn't anything to write home about either. Watch this car and after a few mos when the car is still on the lot you can call the shots - you'll have more knowledge of the market as well. You may want to look at the avg miles per hour when you get the DME. Low mileage is not all that. I would take a higher mileage freeway driven car before a low mileage city car - all things being equal.

So what's up with Bruce Anderson's price guide? Is he just way off?

I see a lot of cars listed way higher. Of course, I see those same cars over and over as time goes on...It's almost like everyone selling is waiting for a sucker.

I think they actually are clueless and wonder why the car sits on the lot or on auto trader for months --unsold. Most of the used car sales lots simply do not know what info an auto forum can offer --where people share the prices in different regions (either openly or in PM) . Or as in my case where i've had several Porsches and saw what I got on trade in to come up decent speculative price guesses.

The market can be volatile so it needs to constantly be revised . The numbers you posted are ok but it's my opinion tht if you really want to know what the car is worth -- Kbb trade in values listed for uased cars is extremely close to what I have been offered when i trade in my cars . You'll see that the numbers are very low.

For example -- a 2006 base 997 with Bose is trade in priced at 36K with 30K miles . Of course that's wholesale in fair value .. and dealerships never offer "excellent" value even on a pristine car . I often get between fair and good on mine .

So 36K is what the 997 is really worth wholesale --which means a buyer wants to come as close to that number as possible . He won't . He'll have to add some rspectable profit and even with that he still won't come close.

If you look at the gap --whosale to CPO profit and compare it to a discounted new car .. it's real close . I even feel the new car is the better value - at this time .. but not always . This can change with evolving markets.

one of the things I found really useful is the "car tell" iPhone app. It consolidates sale prices from dealer auctions across country for every make and model, you can even sort by region. It only gives trim level, miles, and body style, but it's really useful information. When I traded my m3 on my 997 a few weeks ago, the dealer initially offered me 41k, to which I told him I was disgusted and I told him that nowhere in the country could a dealer buy an m3 coupe with 25000 miles for less than $45000. He checked out Mannheim right in front of me and couldn't believe I knew this. He thought about it for a while and came up to $45000, so I think the data in this app must be dead on.

I checked out the 997 I was buying too to make sure I was getting the deal I wanted, and it was a really good deal too. I swear by it now and have used it a couple other times with family members purchases since.

I don't know what region you are located in. But in S. Cal a 2006 C2S, 44K miles, with all options including PSE was listed at $54K 4 mos ago. I lowballed at $45k contingent on PPI and the delaer told me to walk. The car is still for sale, now at $49K. Dealer is chasing the market down, but who knows what he paid for it - high 30s/low 40s? Good luck.

According to the Car Tell iPhone App, here are the last few auction transactions in the Western part of the country for 2006 911S's:

$52405, 32k miles, cab
$46555, 31k miles, coupe
$44515, 23k miles, coupe
$53545, 14k miles, coupe
$57565, 13k miles, coupe
$46245, 42k miles, coupe (black)

The app doesn't really say when the transactions occurred but the last one seems close to what you described. The trouble with the app, also, is that you don't know what the equipment level is of the car, however, it still gives you a pretty good basis on a range of prices the dealer may have paid for the cars.

In my experience, dealers initially list cars like this for about $10k over what they paid and as time passes they go down. I wouldn't be surprised if your offer was pretty close to what he paid for the car, if not a little below.

Also, as stated earlier, if it was a trade in, he could have easily bought it for closer to $40k, depending on the deal he made on the car he sold in exchange for it.

My deal, as of one week ago, on my 2006 C2S Cabrio LOADED, with 46,000 miles on it was $46,800, via carmax. The deals are out there, just have to look, and be patient, but ready to jump on the deal when it does come up. Also, cash in hand does a LOT of talking these days!!!
