I called Downtown LA Porsche and the service advisor quoted approx $1800 (they also said that they wouldn't cover the cable because the car is 5 yrs old and is not under warranty).
There is a TSB, but there is no recall.
I thought I got a good deal, but after hearing that you had your cable replaced for $283 makes me feel a bit unsatisfied.

I understand why you'd be unsatisfied!

Hi everyone,

I have a similar issue on my 997. After checking the voltage levels, it seems there is a voltage drop somewhere in the electrical system. The alternator is fine, so I suspect it's the same issue with the cable connecting the alternator to the starter.

Can anyone confirm which exact parts need replacement? I've attached a diagram of the electrical system here. From what I understand, it's the cable at position 14, described in the diagram as Wiring Harness with Connection Point Generator Starter. I believe the part number has been revised to G99760701903 and it is now called an AS Cable Loom.

In your experience, was this the only part that was causing the issue and needed to be replaced?
