I swap out my summer tires/wheels on both my 535 wagon and my prius for snows myself. The 911 doesn't need a tire swap because it doesn't go out in the snow. And as of yesterday.. it will be staying in there for a while after the snow storm we got here.

I'm also in LA and was wondering what Tire store you use as you seem quite happy with them. (I'm on the west side of LA if that makes any difference).

Thanks,
A long way away, I'm afraid. My shop is in San Bernardino, Valley Tire. They're right down the street from the court house where I used to work, and they've been doing work for court folks for many years. I've probably been going there for 20 years. They don't carry any tires I buy, so I just have Tire Rack or whomever just ship my tires directly to the shop. They never complain, and never gouge me to install tires I didn't buy from them.

I just rely on my jack. Even if a jack starts leaking, it's unlikely to catastrophically fail. If I'm under a car, I always use jack stands. What brand of jack was it that started leaking?

After years of buying jacks that all eventually fail, I got sick of spending $200+ on them and bought an aluminum racing jack at Harbor Freight and the thing has been perfect.

I did the same thing as PTParks, with the exception that I made 2 templates out of cardboard. The first one, which is round, goes over the end of the wheel hub to keep paint out of the threads for the lug bolts. I punched a hole in it so I could hold it in place with the aluminum wheel guide. The second template, which has a 3/4 circular shape cutout, covers the braking area of the rotor, leaving only the grey hub and the caliper visible. Rather than attach the second template I just hold it in place while I spray paint the grey hub. It sounds a little more high-tech than it really is, but the result is certainly better than what I started with. Alternatively, I think you could use a G2 brake caliper paint kit to get a nice glossy finish without having to worry about overspray or excessive masking.
