Just purchased a new set of 4 Hankooks. I got 18,800 miles from my last set of tires (PS2's). The rear tires were completely worn and the fronts still had plenty of tread. I said the same thing....do I replace the rears with new PS2's for thousand dollars or get 4 new Hankook tires. In addition, I have had Pirelli's and Bridgestone's. They both wore out very quickly and the REO50's were the worst of the bunch! If the Hankook's match the performance of the PS2's, I will be very happy for half the price!

One last note....the Hankook's are not "N" rated. Not a deal breaker for me.

Hey Eli,

I have a sidebar....what is the difference between your classic look wheel and the Fuchs wheel. One thing I noticed is the big price difference. Let me know.
Thanks!

Let us know after about 1000 miles how you like the Hankooks. So far they are very good for me (about 150 miles).

The "N" rating is for Porsche approved tires. I got the Hankooks because of the high rating by Tire Rack and the price and "N" rating was not that important to me.

Just to note that if you purchase non "n" rated tires and want the dealer to to work on balance, alignment, tire repairs, etc they will not work on tire related issues due to non "n" rating. They will always blame it on the non-OEM tires as not being Porsche approved and it is causing the problem. Here is an example to consider: you get a flat tire and you want Porsche roadside assistance to tow the car to the nearest dealer. The dealer may decline to work on your car. They will offer to sell you 4 "N" rated tires. Again, not a deal breaker for me but if you are still under warranty, it may be a deal breaker for some.

I have put on 1000 miles on the new Hankooks and I still believe they are great tires. My gas mileage on the Hankooks is 27 mpg max. while the old Contentials it was 29 mpg. Is it because there is more rolling resistance for the Hankooks?

Sorry, I didn't find this reply till now... The biggest difference is that the OS is a low-pressured cast wheel. Most of the time if you are concerned about the lbs. and shaving evey last oz. from your wheels then you'll want to go with the OE wheel.... But if you care more about keeping more oz. in your wallet then the OS design wheel is a good idea.

I just want to chime in on the Hankooks. I have had them since my OEM Pirellis wore down, and I love them, too. Hankooks are quieter, have a nicer tread pattern, and grip wise, I don't track my car, so daily driving is comparable to the Pirellis. In fact, when my Pirellis hit about ~8 k miles, the tread pattern in the middle of the rear tires were gone, and grip was noticeably reduced on slippery surfaces (i.e. slick indoor garage surfaces, esp. when you're turning onto an incline). On top of that, the Pirellis (once worn down), are horribly noisy.

Elvis and Eli: the wheels are on, and they look GREAT! I love the finish you guys did. Thank you!!!!

I have these also on the rear of my car with older PS2's on the front. They are a really good tire so far, well worth the money. I currently put about 5k miles on them. They seem to make the car a little looser in the rear, but I bumped up the rear tire pressure a little and it corrected that feeling.

Great info guys. I am in the same boat as many of you....my front Michelin PS2's are fine, the rears are bald. I was thinking about mixing as well...or maybe just go with all four.

For "around" $900 installed all the way around you can't go wrong!

I just put on some V12's on the rears

and I was hoping my PS2's would still be ok in the front, well I was wrong. The car is dangerously unstable. So I have a set of fronts on the way. I'm hoping that corrects the problem. For the price of a set it was well worth giving them a try.

Whoa, well I guess I won't do what you did...I have the same setup. Plenty of tread on my front PS2's but the rears are shot. So i guess I need to buy a whole set. Let us know how the new tires work out for you!

wow, didn't know they were that cheap, a set cost less than two rear PS2's. Might have to considered them, guess the consensus is that they are pretty decent tires.

those Nitto NT05 also should be pretty decent, if anybody who has experience with good sticky tires could experiment with them it would be great to hear some feedback.
