997 to 993 ?
997 to 993 ?
I'm curious about the 993 and just checked the number on the market below 40k miles & $100k : 39 in the USA. At the top are four turbos @ +$72k. Fifteen years @ less then 2,500 per year; are these garage Puffs ? There are 700 997's on the market.
I wonder how many 993's were imported ? The 993 was 10" shorter, 5" narrower (not the awd) and weighted about 200 lbs. less. I've noted several 997 owners have move back to the 993. Is it a crazy investigation to get behind the wheel just for comparison ?

I think many of us still lust after the 993, especially the TT. Absolutely gorgeous sexy cars. For me, I finally realized I could appreciate looking at them without having to own one, and, I don't need the potential maintenance headaches that could be expected with a 14 or 15 year old car. But the low depreciation rate is attractive. But the handling and creature comforts of the 997 are also very attractive.
I have a 997.1 that I frequently think about selling or trading for a 993. Ideally, I would want an M3/M5/Sport Wagon as the daily driver and the air-cooled for the occasional one a day commute/weekend cruiser. The 997.1 is great, but if I'm going to split the commute, I'd want something more raw for a second car.

993 is my favorite 911. I wish I could get a new one today. However, I am quite happy with my 997.2, the fact that it is new and I really like all of the currrent safety features and options....and I absolutely love PDK, and thats not available in 993.
I sold my 964 last spring after driving it 100k miles (to 157k total), over 11 years. Really a great experience, but I now prefer the creature comforts of better AC, etc. The 964 is similar to the 993, so I ink it's pretty relevant.
For me, either 964 or 993 would be a great track car, but not for the street.

had a 993 for 9 years, then traded for 997C2S and then move on.
will not go back to 993 unless I become a collector (which means never). 997 is better in every objective ways. Subjectively 993 looks better, is more raw, and more collectable.
