New Turbo S Announced

In summary, the 918 is now open for orders at the cool price of $845k. Production begins on 9/18/2013, so to tide over the lucky buyers, they will have the option of purchasing a limited edition / badged Turbo S, delivered at end of this year.
I don't know what is more ridiculous -- the idea of a Turbo S as a placeholder or the acid green accents.
The 918 continues to blow my mind... I just wish Porsche would give the relentless marketing a rest. IMO, it's getting out of control.

Just wait. In a few months time they will issue the 911 Turbo 4S 918 Spider Black Edition Sports Classic Speedster GT3 RSR.

Seriously, I think they must have hired the BMW 1M marketing guys.
It's just a shame that Porsche think that their hardcore enthusiasts are all Multi millionaires!!
Just buy a menial Turbo S from us to tide you over the long wait
and screw the REAL enthusiasts as they will always be around to pick up the leftovers!!

845,000$
that's really, really, really steep..
I figured they'd price it up at the same as a Murci... I can imagine a lot of disappointed people..
and I don't see why they are limiting it?

That's a lot more than the $650k ballpark originally thrown out there. I guess they're trying to dwindle the list of the 2,000 potential buyers down to the limited production run of 918 units and satisfy the business case to keep the CFO happy.
The Turbo S special edition I totally don't get - isn't it confusing to have a 997 Turbo S '918' special edition? It's like a car with two names.
