Advice on basic suspension mods
I'm interested in lowering my car an inch or so, and decreasing body roll without doing too much to worsen ride quality. Basically I want to do this for two reasons:
1) I've got spacers on the car which I love, but lowering the car a bit would improve its presence and looks even more.
2) For track days I'd like to feel the front end less "wallowy". It's fine the way it is, but it could be better if it was more buttoned down.
Oh yeah, I don't want to break the bank.
thanks for the advice--

Cheapest solution is lowering springs. Best solution is adjustable Bilstein coilovers. With the Bilsteins, you can adjust height to exactly what you want. I lowered mine about 3/4" and it improves the look without impeding the ability to negotiate driveway dips etc.
Thanks Ken--
What approximate cost am I looking at for Bilstein's?
+1 for bilsteins whether track (OR just lowering IMHO). and if for track, consider that you may need to get thicker anti sway bars and drop/toe links as well. the point being, superior suspension performance isnt about just one part doing a great job. it's about all the parts working in tandem and complementing each other. that said, some of your stock suspension may or may not be a good compliment to aftermarket coilovers that perform much better than stock struts. in any event, a reputable race shop will ask YOU questions, be interested in what YOU are trying to achieve and will be able to provide more info and service without upselling you.
in re: your original question, i'd say bilsteins, sways, links, proper alignment can be had for 6-8k depending on the shop.

I just dropped mine 1.2 inches with H&R springs - I love it! no noticeable change in drive quality, perfect drop (no rubbing), and no affect on the PASM. Springs plus alignment cost me $1150.
Most Bilsteins (Damptronics for PASM cars) are closer to $3000 retail, but can be found on sale periodically for around $2500. Someone has a slightly used set (PSS10/Damptronic) for sale for $1500, which is a good deal IMO.

I got mine used, and I think the installation, alignment and corner balance was under $1000 at a good independent shop. I was amazed at how the alignment and corner balance improved the handling of my car, and wouldn't install Bilsteins without at least an alignment.

I got about 1 1/2 degrees of negative camber without changing any arms, the car handles great without excessive tire wear. I totally agree with R compound tires being a major help in sticking the car to the track. My street tires love to slide.

I see you are in South Jersey.
I represent AWE Tuning. We are Porsche tuner located just 30 minutes north of Philadelphia. We are a full service facility with 25 full time employess. We have in house engineering and exhaust manufacturing along with install and parts distribution.
Aside from all of that we are master dealers for both Bilstein and H&R. We can provide installation as well as alignment with our state of the art Hunter Alignment System.
As many of the 6speeders mentioned, we can do this two ways. For a more cost effective way to improve the stance and firm up your ride, you can install a set of H&R Sport Lowering springs. These are a direct fit, will give you a more agressive stance, and be about 25% firmer then what you have now.
For a more advanced set up, we are highly recommending the Bilstein coilovers on the later Porsche cars. There are two variants. For cars without PASM, there are the 10 way manually adjustable PSS10's. These are a height adjustable coilover that also has a **** on them to stiffen and soften the ride.
If your car is equipped with PASM, Bilstein offers the the Damptronic system. These are also a height adjustable coilover, but will fully integrate with the PASM. This means you will retain your sport suspension button on the dash. It will offer a soft and firm setting, just firmer then what you have now.
Please let me know if you would like to discuss further. We are very familiar with all of these options, and I love talking about this stuff...

I was in your exact position a year ago and am happy with the result. I went with TPC Stage 1 Adjustable Racing Sway Bars and H&R springs. You are looking at around $2000 - $2500 installed. Obviously an alignment will be involved. I have spacers too, nice presence and you will not have a "slammed" look with the H&R's.
