997S or 997??

Im new here so forgive me If I sound tooo noob. I have finally decided like many of you wise folk to get a 997. Ive had a little experience with a 350Z that I have but have not driven a car on the level of the new 911. I've driven C5 Vettes, Boxsters, and a nice C2S 993, which I almost bought. Soooooo my question is am I going out of league trying to buy a 997S, or would maybe a 997 be better suited to my driving needs. I wont be tracking the car or participating in any kind of road events, maybe eventually with an older Porsche. The car will be an almost daily driver, and maybe see a little aggressive behavior on my end. All your input would be greatly appreciated.

Any dealer should let you try both if he thinks you're a serious customer. That way YOU get to decide rather than "public opinion" here or on any other forum.

One thing to do is look at what comes as standard on the "S" and that are options on the base car. If those "options" seem like the kind of things you would want on a base 997 you might find the gap between the two models is quite narrow.

But in the end only you can decide whether the "S" is worth it or not.

Good luck with the test drives!

I agree with Le Chef

After looking at what was standard on the S and optional on the based model I ordered the S. Whatever you do, order the sport chrono package no matter what model you get.

To be honest with you, the regular997 is a fantastic car. Its smooth, precise, and very comfortable. Pleasure to drive. If you want a rock star- go with the S. Louder, bumpier, headache in traffic. Just like a hot girl that acts like a btich. Headache, but when it comes time to ride, boy do you ride! Or go with the nice girl and enjoy the more subtle aspects of life. But dont consider the cash. Its not about the price difference. They're two completely different cars IMO.
