Does one have to lop another 3K to 4K to extend a non factory warranty another few years or do most trade the car in for another? Just my opinion and the motivation to purchase is different for each. Good luck with search - there are many cars available. Keep in mind, the car is used - it may go at any time.
Good points here, but my desire for CPO was because I don't know the prior owner and how he/she maintains a car, or not. The PCNA checklist is amazingly thorough, confirming zero serious accidents, and the dealer performed at least $2k of work to certify, so I think it's a pretty good deal.

When my CPO runs out, and I hope I don't have to invoke that coverage for anything serious, I'll know that the car has been carefully maintained at least during my ownership.

Put another way, the previous owner could have been a psycho!

I would love to see a CPO car with all the right options and low miles pass an inspection with a decent DME.
BUT .... after looking at auto trader I did not see even one car that i would give a second look at in the Op's price range.

They either had too maany miles for the price or lacked the right options .

In fact i even included 2009 and looked higher to 78K too see cars above his range .
To my surprise those green launch cars are even asking in the 70's . UNBELIEVABLE.
I don't know how the sellers can ask those high prices with a straight face .

In his range --Full leather , Bose, Sport Chrono, Nav (even though its dated ), under 15K miles CPO (which adds onto the price of the car) . one owner car .. Good luck trying to find this.

In my opinion -- the Op ought to
1) Look at LOWER price points with a 2006 car .
2) look at Used Turbo in the 80's.
3) Buy a new car .

I have not driven a 997 before. I only have experience with a few RWD cars (E36 M3, 350Z, 300ZX) and I'm sure the 997 experience is incomparable to what I've previously driven.

I'm not picky when it comes to options. Color would probably be my #1 issue. It has been a long term goal of mine to own a 997 and I'm just not moved by many other cars(new or used) the same way.

I understand with dealers there's probably more leverage to make lower offers vs private party, and having CPO is always nice, but there don't seem to be many 2006's below my price point without some red flags.

IMO dealers are asking $70k plus for 2009 and up because that's what the market says it is. If a 2009 MSRP is $90k, I think dropping to $73k or so by now is not unheard of...

Porsche NA had a great April. Best since 2006.

80% sales increase same month sales.

Cayenne and Panomera on fire.

Even the 911 had a 66% increase over 2010 April sales.

Sales up 46% for the entire year over 2010.

Like I've been saying. This isn't 2009.

better economy of course but also lots of "new" sub-models. i'm expecting this momentum to translate into bigger price increases for 991

I've noticed the prices has gone up a bit but I thought it's just due to Spring. Not too many people think sports cars in the winter.

I just re read the thread and saw this.

In my opinion a a first owned car isn't just a car purchase . It's an ownership experience in terms of driving , maintenance , and even insurance . In fact insurance premiums take into account driving history and past ownership (and even to them a first time owner has an added cost ) .
He hasn't even driven the car to see if he likes it.

To the original poster --
Good luck .

+1

I've shipped and had shipped a number of classic muscle cars, so a couple of years ago here I spent a lot of air time including some PMs with an OP asking about moving a couple of his Porsches; even put him in touch with a private hauler I'd used 8-10 times and who called me back to let me know that the OP was a 16 year old kid! Pissed me off at first but then he was having fun and learning a little bit so what the hell.............

Not a first time owner, just a first time buyer.

I'm expecting the insurance prime hike.

I found a 06 CPO C2S with ~24k miles for around 56k. Nav, Bose, Sport Chrono, Full leather. Does the price seem a bit high? How much do you guys think I would be able to get it down to?

Based on the last couple of months of shopping that I have done, I don't think $56k is that high. I don't think it's realistic to get a CPO with that low of mileage for under $50k.

Maybe $52-$53k?

$56k seems fair. May be able to get it down by a couple grand at most. Very unlikely any dealer (I'm assuming, since CPO) would go much lower at this time of year, let along into the sub $50s, which I don't think is realistic. This is based on having negotiated and bought two low mileage CPO 2007 C2S coupe's in the last 15 months, for $59k (not well optioned) and $63k (well optioned), where asking was $62 and $69k respectively.

Low 50s sounds ballpark based on my research a couple of months ago.
