PSE - adds HP?

Does Porsche Sport Exhaust add any HP or TQ, or is it all just extra noise?

Porsche has never made any performance claims for it and I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone here who does. In fact, the extra weight over stock or aftermarket exhaust may actually rob you of some power.

That said, if I were spec'ing a new 911 today, I'd very seriously consider it for both the on/off switch and for keeping my ride 100% stock.

Well, I already have it and it sounds great. Would x51 headers work well with that setup?

I also found this below on the same subject:

All PSE adds is weight, cost and a great sound...no power gains.

Yeah, if i'm not mistaken, the GTS comes with PSE plus the X51 headers (and other drivetrain goodies).

I think you should consider sport cats first though (I'm assuming you want more sound and more power). They make more power than the headers and will crank up the sound around +50%.

No exhaust really makes power on these cars, despite claims. I would say 5-10Hp max...The real power is in changing to headers and 200 cell cats and tuning the DME to work with the new combo. Even then you are looking at nothing more than 20hp... maybe as much as 30hp with a good tune but you might be sacrificing low end grunt.

Just noise.... all aftermarket exhaust systems add very little hp ( and then only at high rpm) unless there is a turbocharger included.

Does it change the torque curve at all? That is more valuable than a 5hp gain in peak hp IMO.

I think the PSE is an ingenious device to convert money to weight and noise!
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

The ambiguity at hand is always peak power figures. The real question for any exhaust system or any power upgrade is what does it do to the power curve in general. If a mod gives you more power across the rev range then that's good. More midrange is the most advantageous. The combination of Sport Chrono and PSE definitely gives the feel of more grunt and far better throttle response, so I like it. Of course my car came with it. Teh X51 headers would be a very good low cost mod. As would the IDP plenum and a more open air intake. 200 cell cats too. You would notice each of those mods.

probably doesn't apply in your case, but I added gen. II PSE and I got a power boost. I think its because I have a 3.6 and the stock base exhaust is perhaps more restrictive than the stock carrera S exhaust..?

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but do you guys have recommendations for after market tips for PSE? As I understand, not a lot of them will work.
