Electric Car + Engine Noise= Good ?

My business partner bought a Tesla. Car drives great, amazing acceleration but i just couldn't get over not hearing an engine. Had a guy on a bike cut in front of me, he didn't even realize i was coming down the street!!

Is it just me or should these electric cars make a bit more noise...maybe outfit a kick *** sound system with a nice flat 6 soundtrack...LOL

I read recently that an electric version of an upcoming Boxter generation has push-button optional sound effects...

I am on the waitlist for a Fisker Karma....it has external speakers where the exhaust pipe would normally be....from what I hear, you can pick your sound....everything from a ferrari to a jet engine....so people can hear it coming. I have attached a pic from a private showing of a prototype in Nov 2009.

No, its fine. Its a learning process. You should ALWAYS look where you are going. Cyclist may have been relying on other traffic making sounds, but what if it was a faster cyclist... then there would have been a crash. No reason the bicyclist could not have turned his head to look or use a mirror.

Adding noise to electric cars is the stupidest of nanny state ideas I've heard of. If we can reduce the damn noise pollution on roads and in cities and towns, that is a GREAT thing. Don't hose it up by adding needless audio output form an electric motor.

teslas are great cars. its the best electric car out there. congrats!

as for the sound, they do have a whirl when accelerating, as you know. the lack of engine notes is similar to hybrid when driven in the parking lot. i don't consider that a danger.
