Dealer installed OEM short shifter

B&M claims to make it for Porsche but the Porsche SSK is not the same as the B&M aftermarket. Search and you'll see side-by-side pictures that show they are very different.

Thanks for the info. I actually have the factory sport shifter in my car, but I thought the two were identical due to B&Ms claims of being "OEM supplier"
B&M made the 996 shifter, and I think they make part of the 997 shifter, but the housing is different.
Not happy with the feel of the stock shifter or the SSK?
The B&M shifter instruction can be used for OEM SSK DIY,except you skip most of the steps where they tell you to rip apart the shifter assembly and replace with B&M one. OEM SSK comes with the completely assembly so it's a 4 bolts removal/install process.
One step in the instruction that was misleading was the first photo. You pop the shifter cover like this and remove the screw underneath.
VERY simple job to do.

AFAIK, the 997 factory is not the B&M unit. I had the B&M in my 996 and they are very different.
I love the SSK in my car, not only it shortens travel but it also feels more positive when engaged ("notchier"?), which I personally find important at the track.
There are a few DIY out there but it is not an easy one, cable adjustment can be a PITA. The OE SSK comes with a small plastic tool to make sure the cables do not move while installing which makes it easier but still, there are a lot of bits and pieces of trim to remove and it can be a little hairy.

Steph280 our cars are identical......
That's really cool. The only difference is that I have the upgraded shifter and ebrake. Did you do the ssk yourself, and was it easy to do? I hate the long throws in the car now.

Yes I did the SSK based on B&M instruction. Very easy to do. The biggest chore was taking the center console out, but even that it's just remove a few screws and up it went. It almost looked like the Porsche engineers designed the car for the DIYers...
