I plan on replacing my exhaust and I have looked at all of them, I have narrowed it down to this:

AWE Tuning - Full Exhaust, Header, Mufflers, Tips, Cats
Fabspeed - Full Exhaust, Header, Mufflers, Tips, Cats

Thinking of using the Porsche X51 Headers instead of these two companies, thoughts on the subject. They pretty much sound the same, what do you guys think?

+1 on the AWE stuff.

I don't have the AWE cats, but I have everything else on my second gen car and I couldn't be happier. IMHO, the AWE solution sounds right and I the tips are the right amount of beefy without being boy racer. Can't speak to the Fabspeed sound, but AWE has a nice deep sound low in the rev-range and a good howl at full throttle. Plus fit and finish are great and they were awesome to work with from the other coast.

AWEsome, so that is what I have heard.

 

For what it's worth, I had my dealer install the parts. I'm guessing that decision cost me 2x over what it would have been at a good independant, but seemed like cheep insurance against any warranty "questions" in the future.

Interestingly, the dealer, a Porsche/Audi shop, had never heard of AWE. They'd done a lot of STASIS and Tubi work, but no AWE. It was pretty great when I picked up the car, the service writers, many of the techs and my salesperson were all excited about the way the car sounded...a total transformation and much deeper sound than they had experienced. I'm a happy camper. (not sure about the neighbors in my queit, tony neighborhood...my fiance says she can hear me coming home from about a half-mile away...doh!)

 

X51 headers, Gundo Hack and AWE cats are a combo me and a number of other guys on the board have tried that creates amazing sound (especially with aftermarket airbox or filters) and will save significant $$ over either AWE or Fabspeed full exhaust, with near or equal power.

Also don't forget the aftermarket flash to pull it all together.

 

I have the fabspeed mufflers on my car and its quite docile and quiet until you're into the higher revs. Then it really screams.

+1 on saving some money

most of the power gain will come from the cat replacement.. along with louder sound..

so i would go with the cat (AWE) and header (x51) initially to see how u like the sound and the power change (u may lose some lower end grunt).

u can always do the gundo-hack, or even a muffler replacement, at a later date, if u don't like the sound.

i added the BMC filter and the RSS plenum in an effort to gain back some of the midrange power.

 

Thanks guys for all your input and suggestions, unfortunately I'm not a big fan of the gundo bypass, I'm a firm believer of replacing everything once and enjoy the hp gains. Mike thanks also for chiming in, we spoke this week on the phone and appreciate your input, again I've worked with you guys in the past and love your products! I don't mean to be a cheap bastard, but I can't understand the difference between the X51 Headers and the AWE Headers other than cost? X51 Headers go for $895.99 and the AWE Headers gor for $1,595.99, I have seen the inlet sizes and quality and I believe there sound is similar so what gives? Mike can I use the X51 Headers instead of AWE? Can someone with that setup chime in? I love this forum btw! It rocks!
