Going to the Darkside?
Correct, I was told by a Black Edition owner, base engine only. Not sure why Porsche did this, I would imagine there will be more interest if you had an option with 'S' or non 'S'.
All of my non Porsches are black, but my p-car is white.
Having a black car and being an enthusiast means that you are pretty much making the commitment to detail your car every few months. But there is no better looking color. Also, if you use one of those longer lasting glaze/sealants like Klasse or Zaino, black cars still look pretty amazing even when slightly dirty or a few weeks after detailing

I have a '10 basalt black metallic c4s cab and given the small surface area (even smaller with a cab) it is ok to maintain - yep it's still a hobby. I too use the pressure washer / portal cable approach and it helps. I'd say the porsche black paint is somewhat soft. My son has an '02 honda accord in black metallic and it is a harder paint. But takes a lot more effort due to larger surface area and the fact it lives outside.
I love black cars....... The quote above makes sense....
I've got a black Prius and I've never had a car that took as many stone chips all the way to the metal. I'll have a date with the touch up Dr. Chip (or whatever it's called) over the winter... Every stone has knocked the paint clean off. Don't know if that's typical with all the Toyota products but I've had black Ford products that were bullet proof...

black is great, but just dont know if i have that kinda time to invest into it these days. when I had my last black cars I was single no kids...now married 2 young kids, just dont know if i got the time to keep it pristine
back in the day I would wash my black car 3 times a week. Weds, Friday, & Sunday...LOL
Never again!
I had one black car and couldn't keep up with it even when I was single! I'm loving the meteor gray. Mine had a serious amount of road rash and I now sing praises about Dr. ColorChip. I'm still working on getting some of the swirls out. Have you checked out Moe Mistry's posts on the Detailing forum? He's pretty familiar with the p-car paint.
Black paint
I own a Black non-metallic 993.
Once ALL the swirl marks and rain spots removed, very ez for me to maintain. I bought a de-ionizer so I can rinse the car, no drying, no spots, even in the Sun.
