They want more sales. How about this novel idea...offer a superior car for a great price.

I bet Porsche could sell 911's for under $100K well epuipped and still make a great profit and GT3's and Turbos for substantially less then what they are asking now.

You think more competitive prices will sell superior cars? I do.

I agree on the GTR. Awesome performance but in package that has all the soul and character of an electric blender.
Good points.

Porsche's goal is presumably to maximize total profit (= sales x profit per car). They may be figuring that raising prices will increase the profit per car enough to compensate for sales which stay the same or even decline.

I wish my 2012 911 had been $20K or $30K cheaper, and I suspect there's enough profit in there now to drop the price by at least $10K or $15K, but I'm an example of someone who ultimately wasn't deterred by the higher price because of my passion for the car.

If a car company can get the passion part right, big profits can follow. I'm eager see how the 991 does as far as creating passion.

Maybe its me but..I'd rather broader my customer base with a car more can afford than continue to push the price north and hope my ad campaign will continue to attract enough "rich" people.

BTW the same people Obama and the libs think are rich (i.e. if you make $200/$250K) likely can't afford to buy a Porsche and aren't "Porsche rich" if they have 2-3 kids, mortgage the the rest of the normal family trappings especially if they live in the NY area or any metropolitan suburb.

Obama is rich...$10 mil or so. Ummm how did he do that as a public servant? Just ask'n. ; )

Anyway alot of Chinese are rich, hell they have us by the "shorthairs" due to our own stupidily and have jobs galore for alot of reasons (thanks Jeff Imelt for helping that situation along "our GE jobs czar").

Inglorious: Yes the 991 represented times for the Ring are impressive...if you believe them. I don't for a number of reasons.

Show me those times with an independent tester and I'll sit up and take notice. Until then I'm not buying that Koolaide. Stock/standard 991 faster then a 997 GT3 or Turbo S?. No way.

I believe the times. The improvements on the 991 are big so that time makes sense to me, but time will tell.

We had a good discussion about what "rich" means in another subforum. Based on our survey in 6speed and other sources, I would say that most Porsche drivers are upper middle class or affluent, not rich/wealthy (which is like top 0.5% or 0.25%). I suspect that increasing the 911 price by $10K or $20K won't change the demographic much, since it's still not anywhere near exotic car pricing.

As far as Obama's money, it's mostly from book sales. He was lucky to write those books before his presidential campaign.

I think it would be impossible to do any better than they're doing now in terms if US sales. Maybe they could lure some would-be M6, Audi R8 or Aston owners, and maybe w/some good product placement, like in a Bond movie (pls, don't roll the car), they could inspire M3 or Z06 buyers to trade-up. Still it’d be tough. Correct - a person spending $100K is not likey using it as an "everyday Porsche" but the guy/gal buying it used at much less than the original list is. If its huge sales numbers they're shooting for, they'd be better off trying to do that w/the Boxster/Cayman, which arguably has the better platform and is, as I understand, just as costly to produce.

You mean he was lucky enough to have his ghost writers write his book before the election.

Wonder how those books sales are going now.

I've read both books and didn't get the impression he had a ghost writer. Do you know for a fact otherwise?

I'm sure the book sales are down now, but mainly because that's old news at this point.

Many astute observations here.

That´s a very ambitious goal to say the least.
i mean if rising markets like China, India, Russia and Brasil continue their mass production of new millionaires they could be rite but money isn`t everything. quality has to come first, the rest will follow.
