2006 Carreras S, what do I need to know???

I'm looking to replace my S4 with a car I can drive this winter (city living, very little snow), and take to the track in the summer. My summer car is an Aston Vantage.

The car looks clean, but it has 50,000 miles on it. I only drive around 5000 miles a year per car. There is another nice option, but it's $20k more though only 21,000 miles.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Is it a Porsche certified used car with warranty or a private party selling it as-is? If it's certified with warranty you should feel safe with a 50,000 mile car but you still want to do due diligence and have it checked over by a Porsche mechanic, check the service history, check the DME log to see if it was tracked or driven especially hard.

If this car is an AWD model you should have no issues driving it in the winter. I have a 2006 2wd cabriolet and we get a fair amount of snow in Denver. I put a set of Pirrelli snow tires on it and get around just fine in the snow having the engine weight over the rear axle. If it's going to be more than a few inches on the roads I drive my 4x4 but thats because I don't care so much if it gets bashed by some other driver.

It's a private car. They are one of the better "exotic" shops in town. Strong bunch of repeat customers.

Good point, I would have it looked over by a Porsche shop. The much more expensive car is a certified Porsche. It's my second car, so it's not my "baby". That said I'm going to drive it five months a year and it is the car I need to TRUST on the track.

Cheaper car is black with factory aero kit
More expensive one is Yellow with aero kit and power pack
Original paint on both
Aero kits and power pack are factory options.

I would love to hear any specific thoughts on the model, year etc?

Since its an 06 you should be safe from worrying about premature IMS bearing failure which was a concern on the 05 and earlier models.

If it was me, I would go with the yellow car with the higher HP. Better for the track (color & HP ), less miles and CPO'd. What the hell, its only money and its a Porsche

That it is an awesome car and more than fast enough - the perfect do-it-all 911. The only 911s I like more are the 997.1 and 997.2 GT3 and RSs of the same series.
