I have had some VERY high prices quoted for powdercoating from reputable shops--I mean half of a new set of BBK Brembos (fronts), just for the disassembly/reassembly, powedercoat, high.

I am really curious about the efficacy of painting one's own calipers with the G2 kit. (Your 996 calipers look mint; were those DIY or professionally done by a powdercoater?)

As an aside to the OP, I agree with the general proposition that color choice is purely subjective and choosing one or the other does not a poseur make. Slapping a RUFF badge on the back of a base 911, THAT's posing.
Here is a list of the items I had to buy:

Pagid 4-2-1 pad (just front) $212.00
powder coat (4 calipers) $140.00
Brake Pad Damper Rear 30 mm $40.00
Brake Pad Damper Front 36/40 mm $81.00
Brake Pad Damper Rear 28 mm $39.00
dust covers $80.00
disassmeble by a brake specialist $80.00
assemble by a brake specialist $80.00
porsche decals $16.00
brake fluid $15.00
brake line $70.00
repair kit front $43.00
repait kit front $43.00
repair kit back $35.00
repair kit back $30.00
Total $1,004.00

I gave up trying to get the pistons out, even though I had a compressor. It was much simpler to pay someone a few bucks to take the pistons out and put them back in. Once I get my calipers back from the powder coater, I will post an update with pics; before and after.

Red. I have a C2 (non S) and mine came with red calipers. This was an option for the non-S.
