Uneven Tire Wear

I just bought a 2006 Carrera S cabrio with 8,200 miles. The right rear tire (Pirelli PZero's) has more wear on the inside then the left tire. The alignment seems fine, no pulls at low speed or highway or when brakes are applied. Any thoughts on the cause?

Also, I would like to get Michelins to replace the rear Pzero's but the front Pzeros have enough tread and I hate filling landfills with tires that still have life. If I have Mich's in the rear and keep the P's up front (until they wear down), any foreseeable problems? Thanks!

tire pressure may be the cause. also, it may be possible the tire was replaced early (puncture). check tire manufacturer date stamped on the rubber.

it is not advised to have different model tires front and rear. i would wear out the fronts or sell them used to avoid wasting

Actually, that wear pattern isn't unusual. These cars wear the inside of their tires fastest, and all powerful rear-wheel-drive cars wear the right rear faster than the left. It has to do with the way differentials work. That is, the gears that divide the torque from the driveshaft between the left and right axles.

If the difference from left to right is particularly noticeable, then it usually just indicates the driver did a lot of heavy acceleration from rest.

Scrap the PZero fronts, they are horrible tires. Buy 4 tires that match and then watch for tire wear. The previous owner might have had an allignment issue that he fixed but didn't replace the tires.

How does the alignment "seem" fine? Did you have it checked at an alignment shop? If not, I would. Some people say the tires wearing unevenly is normal, I don't share that. My Porsche's have always worn evenly, maybe too quickly, but evenly. Have the camber checked on the right (both actually).
