Maybe that's why so many New Yorkers move down here to South Florida!

50 a day is, uhm, a complete no-go. I mean if I had a Bugatti for a 1M+ it may be worthwhile to park in a garage for 1,500 a month (mine is 400 a month). By the way, 50 a day is not completely crazy. Rule of thumb is, the closer to the water the cheaper the parking. East + Hudson River you can put in your car for <$20 a day early bird parking (arrive before 10 am and out by midnight). Overnight parking typically goes for $40. Now if you park close to 5th ave, $40 is the daytime rate and overnight can go for as much as $60 - 80. Sometimes they'll try to charge you for exotic car, SUV surplus and all this other BS.

http://www.iconparkingsystems.com/ga...ons.asp?val=72

Monthly ranges from I'd say $250 for outside parking lots close to water to $400/500 for a usual garage in the low and high avenues and up to $800+ midtown centrally located. Yes, you can lease an S-Class Mercedes for that.

One evening some garage in midtown actually wanted to charge me extra for "exotic" (we're talking my old Boxster here) and I asked them, if I pay extra (20% is what they asked for) what do I get for my money?? Like higher insurance coverage? A better spot? Answer: no sir, coverage remains the same (max 25K in case you're wondering) and we can put the car on the main floor for another $20 extra (in addtion to the 20%). LOL, in short, you pay extra for nothing. Just a BS fee. Obviously, I ended up paying neither.

So back to my original post, yes you guys were right. I took the car to a great detailer whom I trust (after Porsche wanted to send the car right to the body shop) and they started to carefully dust off the concrete particles and get rid of the white paint with some cleaning solution. Already looked much better. Next step was to polish the whole area and all that is left now are a few minor scratches that penetrated the paint. I carefully used some black touch up paint and you have to look really hard to find anything now .

Anyway, I now have these huge bumper blockers. What a pain in the butt. Still searching for a garage that will give me a good spot and let me self park. I'm over it. No more valet.

As a NY native, I can attest to the fact that no where is safe in NYC.

what about those old style outdoor parkings where they were keeping cars raised up on lift? that would be safer probably than to keep it in the public garage and a reasonable tip probably would ensure car would remain intact. or are they all gone now?

also, what happened to good old way to bribe your way into parking at any good local hotel?

The extra fee for main floor parking always cracks me up. I explain to them nicely that they are better off putting me on the main floor since it minimizes their chances of dinging my car, which they would pay for.

Yeah, the exotics surcharge can double or triple the normal monthly charge. I had a couple garages try to hit me with that on my T4S but most aren't so silly and I pay just the "normal" monthly.

The longer term problem in NYC is that developers are buying outdoor parking lots to turn into condos. Supply of spaces goes down, prices go up:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/05/re...pagewanted=all

Lastly, yeah all these prices are ridiculous (as are the $12 takeout salads and $15 movie tickets) but keep in mind this is a city (well, a borough more specifically) where dogwalkers and plumbers regularly make $100k/yr and a top strippers brush up against 7 figures:

I wonder if they're into 911's??

What are the "bumper blockers" you have referred to in your post. Not something I am familiar with. Anyone got a picture?

These thingies:

http://www.bumperblocker.com/

You see them all over the city. Some people don't even bother to take them off anymore even though you clearly are supposed to LOL

Ironically, my damage on the fender would have happened anyway. These things really just help cuz valet guys love to back up until they hit the concrete. That way they know they can squeeze another car in front of yours using the same method...

The "ugh" continues. I can't even count the incidents since my last post. They were plenty. This city is just no place for a nice car.

Picked up my new (used) cab last week. Within one week I've already found a new light but large scratch from a license plate or something. I'll be able to buff it out.

I really tried everything I can. Self parking (didn't even take 3 weeks for someone to fully hit the car), and valet (3 incidents in total in one year). It's not working for me.

Does really no one here have any good suggestions for a good garage that allows you to self park in a reserved spot? That's the only thing that will save me from this emotional distress of constantly giving my car to people who I genuinely distrust. And my own statistics prove me right.

What do my fellow NYC porsche drivers do?

I can't hack it any longer. I could just forget the whole thing altogether and buy a Wrangler because that's what you need here.

Would really appreciate any parking recommendations!

When I visit the city I usually street park but I always walk by one garage. It has a RR phantom always parked in it. Nice thing is, its parked alone in a secure location with no other cars allowed. Might be worth to ask, only thing its located all the way downtown. Battery tunnel garage I believe near greenwich and rector.

That really sucks, glad it buffed out. I am in NY but, thankfully not in the city. I actually avoid the city at all cost, it's absolute chaos down there with a car, traffic, pedestrians, construction, bike lanes, and a lot of people that can't drive!

I empathize w/your plight. I self-parked in an outdoor lot underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. Quite reasonably priced, relatively speaking. As for parking on the street, just gotta accept it. All the dings in my bumpers were from braille method parking. Clumsy/careless drivers in SUV's were most often the culprits. Might be worth putting those flappy plastic bumper covers on when you park on the street.

@carrera997re: Both downtown (FiDi / TriBeCa) or Midtown East would work for me.

@InSpeedWeTrust: yes I know that RR and that garage. I think overall that garage is a decent option even though I had some issues there as well (meaning my car got nicked by other drivers). I then got several warnings because I parked slightly off the marks closer to walls.

What I really want is a designated self parking spot. One would think it should be available somewhere in the city.
