Wow! Honestly I had ruled out cayenne tt due to lag. Adias I have followed your responses on 6 speed a agree with much of what you post. Your comment will cause me to include the ctt in my selection. Thanks!

I have done the school and it is top notch. Fantastic track, great instructors and a terrific program.

IMO better if you have one or two DE's under your belt first but even if you don't it is still a good investment to learn what these cars can do.

It's a worthy debate for a cayenne prospect...from a statistical perspective. However, like I said, while cts-v on paper is interesting, it falls way short given my personal decision criteria.

Numbers are not the whole story when considering a sports car or a car with sports driving characteristics.

The Corvette is a fine sports car, no criticism from me, on a performance/handling perspective. The CTSV is a sports sedan and may be OK in that category. The Jeep is not in the same league, not from a handling perspective, and that's why I reacted to you post comparing it to a 911. Not a serious question, I do not think. Sorry!

There's no comparison between my Jeep and my 911, but the versatility of the Jeep and its original low coast allows me to also keep the 911 as my toy. The fact that it's also fun to drive, fits my whole family plus dog and luggage, and can cruise through any weather without breaking a sweat, makes it a fun alternative. But I would never replace the Porsche with it.

If you really must fit 5 people, I'd look at the C63, E63, M3, and M5.

Or keep your 911 (there's no substitute) and get an E63 wagon for the wife, which you'll enjoy driving too.

This thread has way too many posts (just kidding). I would hate to hijack it with the pictures of wife's ride, the 2011 Cayenne. Please PM your email ID. I will send you 10 high resolution pictures that I have taken of her SUV. Show those pics to your wife. Chapter closed. End of story.

I have both the 06' Carrera S and the 11' M3 sedan. This the last of the NA V8's sedan for now. 12' M3's (V6 turbos) are only going to be coupes for now. As far as handling goes carts only no P car, but a pretty good substitute. Once you rev up that V8, I can assure you fun factor really gets up there. Wife drives a MB GL and still thinks the M3 is a sportscar.

Thanks for the replies and feedback. Here's my test drive/evaluation plan in sequential order:
1. Look at 06-08 cayenne tt
2. Compare Ctt to cs same generation
3. Get tempted by driving new gen cayenne
4. Look at m3 sedan

Hypothesis is I will end up with option 1....win the wife over (6 months) and get rid of her overpriced oversized sled. Then, look at 991, 993, and decide whether to return to 997. While I got my 997 new and I have emotional attachment to it, I know enough now about what options I really care about as they have evolved a bit over time.

I agree, that is why I think the GTS is the one to have! Not as quick, but will be easy to maintain and reliable V8 power. Plus the 6mt makes diving it more involved then a tip transmission.

Can a Cayenne put 7 in seat belts and still go on a shopping trip to Costco? Nope.

Cadillac has a long way to go to be in the same league as Porsche, but the size of the ESV is awesome when you need it. My wife refuses to drive ours. LOL

Just go by an older Toyota sequoia for about $8000 to taxi the kids around. Mine has 190000 miles with only scheduled maintenance.

You really should check out the '12 Grand Cherokee Overland. Very well appointed, handles great, and powerfull with the V8.

I ordered my '11 with a V6 and I'm totally satisfied after a year of ownership.

Good luck on your choice!

Have you given any thought to just embracing a slightly larger car and trying the new M5? I have not driven it yet, but it seems like a damn cool car. Been getting really great reviews as well.
