Advice on the right time to buy
Advice on the right time to buy
Hi All -
I had 2010 C2S that I swapped about 18 months ago for a 2010 Panamera Turbo after having some major back surgery.
Back is healed up and I recently swapped the Panamera for a new Fisker Karma. A gorgeous car which I think the Wall Street Journal nailed it's review with...lots of quirks but probably the most interesting car on the road.
Needless to say it's definitely a "version 1.0" product and I'm anticipating long stays at the dealership. And while it's probably the nicest looking car I have ever seen it doesn't come close to filling my needs as a sports car. So...
I'm in the market for a Carrera Convertible. I want a 997.2 version so looking at used/CPO 2009-2010 either C2S or C4S. I live in Florida so convertibles are year round drivable. Since many places in the states are still in the midst of winter I was wondering if the buying cycle is better now than in a few months as Spring/Summer start rolling in. Also, I assumed with the new 911's coming in now that there would be more 997.2 on the used/CPO market.
What advice to you have on buying? Now? Wait a few months? CPO vs used? 2009 vs 2010 (I think they are identical). Anything else to consider?

Just going through this exercise myself, I can hopefully shed a little light... Keep in mind I live in Toronto, Canada, so I'm giving you the perspective of someone who experiences winter
1 - With the cooler weather sports cars are selling at a slower frequency, so in theory pricing reflects this. A better time to buy for lower pricing.
2 - I'm told dealers & sales reps are more anxious to sell towards the end of the month to make their quota, so buy at the end of the month if you want to work a little better deal.
3 - The closer to spring/summer, the more selection you'll have, but probably at a premium price as demand will be higher.
4 - There seem to be a lot of cabriolets available in my region lately... I imagine the coupes are more common to sell this time of year.
And finally if the right car at the right price comes along, and you know it's "the one", then any time is a good time -- trust your gut
CPO is definitely a plus in my opinion for peace of mind... I would definitely go that route again - I already have $3k+ of quirks that I worked out since getting the car and it's all been 100% covered under warranty. Nothing major, just things that otherwise I would have had to pay for myself! I figure in two years it will definitely pay for itself compared to a P-car from a used car lot. And frankly CPO pretty much guarantees they stand by the product, again going back to knowing you're getting a quality product with a clean title, which passes Porsche's rigorous pre-inspections, etc. I'm happy knowing I'm covered for two years on my used car!
Hope that helps!

I'm in the market for a coupe 2009/2010 and there isn't whole lot to select from with PDK. It's turing into a part time job to find the right one. Plus I am a very impatient person and I'm driving my wife nutz talking about cars all the time. Glad I found this forum for some car therapy.
