Clear Bra
Clear Bra
Has anyone done a DIY clear bra application? Anyone try Durashield? I am interested in learning how to apply the film (like I need another hobby!). They seem to make the film available to do it yourselfers and provide training if you wanted to get in the business. Their stuff is pre-cut, but I am unclear on the quality vs the brands professional installers use.
Clear bra is not really a DIY job. It is easy to get finger prints, bubbles, stretch marks, etc. Even with pre-cut kits, some trimming is often required. If you are not an experienced installer, you could potentially butcher your paint a bit.
I have seen Durashield, it looks nice. I'm not sure how long it last's though. There are more and more brands of paint protection film coming out lately. The big 3 are Venture Shield, Xpel, and 3m. Venture and Xpel have a smooth finish, 3m has a bit of an "orange peel" finish. I used 3M on on the sides of my offroad truck, and Venture shield on the front end. I removed the venture after a year because it yellowed. The 3M still looks the same as it did 4 years ago. Since then, venture has come out with the Ultra series, which may have addressed the yellowing issue.
I would recommend having a reputable installer like Premier do a "custom kit" or "full coverage" bumper. Meaning instead of a computer cut kit, it is sheeted out and trimmed by hand. This way you don't see the edges so much and you have the best coverage. You might pay a littler more than you planned, but you will have good results and potentially save your self some money by not wasting money on a DIY clear bra and having to have it redone.

I did... on my Motorola Xyboard (some heavy duty protector not the 'static' kind). And from that experience...wouldn't even attempt it on my 997... maybe on the lights but no way w/ all the nooks and crannies.

GTRR installing film can be very costly and time consuming if you do not know what you are doing. If you are serious in learning how to install film I suggest you watch some videos on Youtube to get a feel for it. If you think it is something you would like to try then contact Pro-Form Designs out in Las Vegas and see about getting into a formal training class. They are one of the top training schools out there. They also carry Avery film. The Avery Nano Fusion is really one of the best films out there. Production of that film will start back up in a month or so. Until then I would recommend trying Ventureshield Ultra or Xpel. Just a warning Xpel is a little bit more difficult to install. The adhesive is very sensitive and distorts easily . I would recommend holding off on trying it until you get the hang of it as it is a much more expensive film to buy. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.
