How to value/price when buying a modded car ?
If the "mods" simply replace another OEM part (ie. bumpers, new top, tires, wheels) then little to zero added value as they simply replace a perfectly fine OEM part. I would offer what you feel is a good value - in your area. The region and availability of cars will fluctuate all over the continent. Check on what that model cab. has sold in your area for in the past couple of months and that will be a good indicator. My dealer checked on his computer and could see how many of what model had sold in the 500 miles around me. That helped me get more trade in on my Boxster S when I traded it in.
They may feel that a convertible - coming into Spring - may have more value than it does because the weather will be changing for some soon. Many "other than Porsche" dealers don't want a P car on their lot as they don't know much about them. In short, you will have to determine what a Toronto value is.

That's a beautiful car and the mods are very nicely picked. I believe the seat backs are a mod too. Not only should you consider the parts cost of the mods but also the installation costs. To me, that car is far superior to a stock and I would expect you'd be getting a heck of a deal for that car with those miles at full blue book retail. In my experience getting a dealer down $10M is going to be a real stretch, but $75M seems really high. What is blue book retail on it with those miles?
KBB showing the following approximations:
CPO $67,646
Retail $65,646
My final offer was $69,000 and they rejected it. They are looking for something in the low 70s, I think.
I may go one final offer for $70,000 near the end of the month.

Stick to your guns and don't extend yourself just to get the car and bow to their price. If it hasn't sold when you go back and after that same 69k for it, then say 70k and that's my final offer. If it's there in a month they will have to try and sell it...the flooring fees will be taking away profit.
If it's gone..then it wasn't meant to be. I would love to know if it does sell to someone else, how much they got..if they are honest.
Do you plan on getting a PPI and DME readout? You really need to think about the inspection. If they take your offer..make it contingent on passing a PPI and the readout. Since they are NOT a P Dealer, they need to allow you to inspect it. If they make a stink about it...then you know what's going on there.
I do not know if this rule applies to "P-Cars", but generally speaking, most mods do not ADD to the value of the car, but rather decrease the value of it. Additionally, I can add to the length of time it takes for one to sell the car. Again, "P-Cars" are in a class of their own, so hard to really say. You are always better off to part out the car and bring it back to stock before you sell it.
Usually you would expect a counter offer - if you offer $70K you're just negotiating with yourself.

I think the wing is a little out of place for the car. I'm not big on those large wings...reminds me too much of the rice buckets in California with aero kits and large wings....
But it is a Porsche so it's a better look!!
To mod or not to mod...
When I was in the hunt for a 996T last year, I started off thinking that I did not want any mods or " enhancements".
My initial criteria were:
1/ 2002 or later
2/ nice exterior color / interior color combo
3/ California car
4/ low mileage
5/ DME read-out acceptable
6/ six speed
7/ preferable a 1-owner car
8/ Carfax solid
9/ PPI acceptable.
10/ only meaningful mods (wheels , suspension etc)
11/ full documentation
I purchased a 2003 T 996 with the following
1/ basalt / natural leather
2/ Cal car
3/ 23k miles
4/ no overrevs
5/ 6-speed
6/ 3 owners - last owner 6+ years
7/ carfax solid / docs complete
8/ PPI done by Porsche dealer OK
When I was done, I also ended up with additional goodies such as:
1/ Factory Aerokit
2/ 19 inch Sportecs instead of 18 inch Hollows
3/ Fabspeed headers / exhaust
4/ Evom air
5/ Tial A28 turbo/s
6/ Evom ECUtune to 520 HP
7/ Upgraded sound system, including JLA amps, etc
8/ K-40 installed
9/ full ruffled leather
10/ complete JIC coil over installation
I am estimating that I paid no more than $2,000.00 for the complete mods / upgrades. I am also calculating that the cost of the mods - when NEW - including the various installation(s) would have been pretty close to $20K. So , I recon I paid 10 cents to the dollar for the mods.
Note also, as you can see that I was flexible and made changes to the initial criteria list based on the opportunities and typical cars I saw out in the used market space.

They came back with a counter of $73,000 and invited me to come by the dealership again to talk about it. i replied via email and stood firm on my $69,000 and gave them many reasons (incl. many points have all brought up - thank you !) they should move the car and stop trying to convince me that these mods are desired.
I totally agree. It looks decent form a 45deg angle, but form the side and rear, it looks a bit off. with a change to the front bumper to a GT3 bumper, i wonder if there needs to be anything in the rear to balance it out wrt aerodynamics ?
no deal...so i bought a 2007 White with Terracotta C2S ! Man, white is hard to come by...and especially in that colour combo. Getting the car on Monday so I'll post pics next week. Thanks for everyone's input on this decision.
GREAT. As long as your not disappointed for letting the other one go...what I'm talking about...it's a Porsche...all of them are sweeeeeet!!
