driving 997.2 w/o tips

Can I do limited driving 5 miles w/o exhaust tips while I get them ceramic coated? 5 miles total 2 days.

Dropped off tips today. 3/27 Car looked funky w/o tips. Did not want bumper to get too warm so no more driving the tipless 911 till I get them back. 60 dollars to ceramic coat black velvet 10% gloss. Will go well with 911 matte black emblem recently applied.

Of course! Might look a little funny, and might get a tad more grime on the back of the car than usual, but that's about all I can think of.

Being that the tips don't get that hot you could always opt for powder coating them. It's a lot cheaper and will last! There are a lot of colors to choose from.

I got a quote from my local place for $75 to ceramic coat my stock tips and he said that they were good up to 1800 degrees F. I think I'm going to do it.

$450!!! YGTBSM.. I hope you're able to grab your ankles.. and be sure to lube up.. that's gonna hurt. Even $250 is highway robbery. I've had more than one complete m/c header system black ceramic coated for $225.

Keep in mind that regardless who you send your tips to, ceramic coating will not give you a glossy finish. You should expect a semi-gloss coating at best. I'd suggest you ask to see a sample of their work before you hand over the tips.

Pls post some pics when you get 'em mounted.

There has been at least one person who experienced coating failure on powder coated tips. Driven only on the street without much time at WOT a powder coat might last. Take it to the track and I wouldn't have a lot of faith in powder coating.

Now you're talking.. If you think about it, take some pics of the coated tips before you install them. I'm curious what they'll look like.

No. Not really. Tried earlier to buff with Barkeeper's friend and towels with some improvement while they were mounted. Pulled them off and transported them to shop 2 miles away.

All pieces are first sandblasted with garnet and walnut shell media inside and out to ensure the removal of any foreign matter that could impede proper application, and then re-blasted with aluminum oxide to give the surface the perfect tooth for the coating to adhere. All pieces are then coated inside and out to seal in the metal, protecting them from rust and corrosion, and giving them the best possible performance properties. (from their website)

you can PM me for the website.

i would be worried about melting the rear bumper or cracking the paint from heat. personally, i wouldn't drive it. from you sig it looks like you have 2 other cars. now would be a good time to use them.
