Drove a new Vette
Drove a new Vette
Just making sure I like the Porsche as much as I think I do. I think the differences between the 911 and the Corvette are a lot bigger than the car mags let on.
I like it, for the money its a great car, it very fast, almost makes my C55 feel slow which is saying something. The build quality is so much better than the C5 ( I had an 01' Roadster) the ride and feel of the car is tighter, shifter/clutch is spot on, the motor just pins you in the seat and rumbles up the tach. The car does wallow a bit in transitions, feels a bit numb, and under hard braking the front end went on a little hunting expedition. Overall its a good package but.... Still not as taut and responsive and engaging as the 911. The Vette feels more like your along for the ride while the 911 is a very hands on experience.
At the risk of sounding like a bit of a snob, I like that only one person that I know of has a 997S in my neighborhood where several have C6's. It is all about me right?? LOL I know the 997 will look good to me for as long as I own it where the Vette tends to have a bit less long term appeal to me.
Bottom line, for me, and I'm not slamming the Vette, for 50K+/- it is a lot of car but the Porsche just feels like a sports car, very tight very responsive, very solid. Its truly a fun car to drive in fact it begs to be driven hard. Porsche just has all of the intangibles. The car peaks 4 out fo 5 of my senses. I'm glad I checked it and am a little less apprehensive about the price of the 997 now, it really will be worth the cost of admission.
