First pcar purchase, need advice.
What did you end up paying for your 06 CPO? I was thinking of offering $35,000 might be a good buy considering only 2 owners and the first owner had it a year and only drove it 9k miles.

That would be great, if you could ckeck it out. I just saw the carfax on this. Looks like it had some issues that the transmission was removed and axle bearing replaced. Also had the spoiler replaced. Now if they only come down to $40k that's my budget?

If you can't afford the maintenance or repair, then stay away. CPO is an up front purchase anyway and Vegas wasn't built on winners. You are buying a used car and anything can happen. You can find a well maintained non warranty '05 C2S for less than $40K, but it is tougher to qualify for a used car, private party loan. That said, the money you save going private party can be used for the exploded engine fund. Good luck.

Wow! So i can be sure the engine in a Porsche is going to blow up! So porsche's are sure to have major breakdowns? I have had many German cars and they seem to hold up well? Maybe I need to stay away from porsche if they are no good?
What scares people actually is the repair cost of this. What really matters actually is how often does this happen.
Its like thinking " I wont go vacations because the plane might crash and i die".come on...
One reason that 911 has become the most succesfull sports car ever created is durability and daily drive capability. How many Ferraris and Lambos have you seen with 150k miles?

well I think everyone is right.
If the idea of having to pay 1000 USD for repairs is a problem, you should stay away. Sharkys is right.
On the other handmike4s is correct as well, it is not that you see Porsche of flatbeds all day. These cars are highly reliable, more so if well maintained and reasonably drive. Buying a CPO puts the odds on your side.

I went cpo for peace of mind. Now I can relax and enjoy. On the other hand I think I found a steal of a deal. Only thing.... Took six months of searching every couple of days. Whatever you do, don't settle.
What happens when the warranty or CPO runs out? Are you willing to prepay 2K to 4k for a few additional years? How long do you plan on keeping the car? Many people really should not be driving a Porsche because they constantly worry about the cost for maintenance and repair. If you can't sleep, pay the up front insurance and purchase a warranty. There is no free lunch, as you will pay one way or the other and many buyers tend to forget that. I worry about the balance between safety and convenience. Maintenance and repair are the least of my concerns - it's not like we are driving Bugattis. I drive an '05 997.1 C2S with the 'exploding' engine and 'brittle' PCCBs. It is in excellent condition with 55K miles. It is worth $34K wholesale and $38K private party. A Porsche dealer will tack on at least $5K - $8K and CPO the car because they can and most people need the financing. You can roll the dice, but don't complain if the outcome is not in your favor. Take some things you read on this forum with a grain of salt. Because everything you read on the Internet is correct

Good sound advice. Cars are machines and all machines break down. It's just a matter of when? How much it will cost to fix it? And can you afford it....
Porsches are no different. I am a big fan of buying a CPO car though. Porsche has one of the best in the business and it's kind of silly not to take advantage of it.
My first choice is a CPO. I found a 06 38xxx miles trying to get it for $42k is this a good price? Just seams to be real basic, no power seats and other small options missing.
Don't assume anything just because it's at a dealer. Get an S. I'm sure the PDK is great, but likely not an option at your price point. Really enjoy the tip, so you'll be plenty happy with whatever.
