Reverse Apple to USB adapter? Does it exist?

Strange I know but here's my question...

I have a double din unit installed and I have the lovely apple cable coming out of my console so I can plug in my iphone or ipod.

Is there any such adapter that will turn that cable into a usb port?

I know apple cable is connected to the headunit via usb but I don't want to uninstall everything to change the cable to a usb is such adapter exists.

I tried a search on google but adapter/iphone/usb brings up too much information to sort through what I am looking for.

Your help is appreciated.

Pictured: is a male end of what would normally being coming out of a car or ipod dock. What I need is a female end that goes on this (like bottom of iphone) and then a cable that turns it back into a usb.

Does it exist? LOL probably not.

You can get iDock extension cables that have the end you need, and you can get USB cables, so worst case you can make your own cable by splicing and heat-shrinking things.

Whats the goal /use case here for this cable?

When I got my new head unit installed they gave me the ipod/iphone plug in my center console. I need to update the maps and firmware and everything is buried. I was hoping for a simple adapter that I can plug into the ipod plug that will turn into a usb.

I think I'm going going to have to start taking apart the console and find the end that I'm looking for. I could bring it back but it's a little far and I rather solve the issue myself.

Does updating the maps and firmware require you go simply copy files to the head unit, or do you need to run some software on a PC to perform the update?

No computer needed but it only works via USB. If your thought was to make a CD file I can't.

You might be able to use an app to copy files. 1st copy the file to your iPhone from your computer, then connect the iPhone to your head unit using the existing connector, and copy the file to your head unit. If your head unit has Bluetooth, you may not even have to connect it.

See if this app will work for you...

Thanks for the ideas.

I'm going to try out the USB app tonight and if that doesn't work, the tools are coming out.
