997 Issues and reliability?

I'm a newbie here on 6speedonline and a newbie to the Porsche 997. I am in the market for a 2007-2008 Carerra S (coupe or cab) and I was wondering what do the owners on this thread think about the car passing it's warranty period?

I use to own a 2010 BMW M3 E92 but just sold it yesterday and was very active on the m3post forums but a new possible car means a new social (forum) life.

I find that the KBB price for the 2007-2008 C2S cab or coupe is in the 50-60k range but I consistently find that dealer prices (ebay, autotrader, or their own personal websites) are higher than KBB for that particular car. Do the Porsches really hold their value better than the KBB price?

My family have a 2010 Panamera already but that is used by my folks mostly. I wanted one for myself. Any advice/suggestions are appreciated as i eager step into the Porsche family on my own.

They are mainly very reliable cars. Nothing really to worry about. There is this one little issue you might want to research a little further before you make that plunge. Try searching for "M96 catastrophic engine failure"

Good luck

Those are good years to buy. The early 2005 models may have some IMS issues, but they are rare. Flynlzrd gives a good way to search those out above. I have owned 2 2007 models and I can't say enough good things about them.

Used Porsches are higher priced today than they were a year and a half ago. Porsche cut production starting in with the 2008 model year in response to the recession. Supply/demand issues. Plus (and this is just opinion - not fact), the new 991 is priced high enough to probably give pause to a lot of would-be new car buyers.

My $0.02.

Good luck with the hunt.

If you look into Consumer Reports you will find that the 2007 and 2008 911s are reliable cars. The IMS issue is very rare. More common but not overly expensive are RMS ( rear main seal) leaks and PCM (Porsche Control Module - radio/nav, etc.) issues. Becker can repair that last item. The RMS is generally something one can live with until the clutch is eventually replaced. Get a pre-purchase inspection.

Oh yes.......tires!
