I'm thinking, Porsche = stick.. But it looks like thiings are evolving.

How many miles would you look at as a maximum for purchase and resale, etc. 30k?, 20k?

I'm seeing some 997.1 S's for around $55k with 15k miles.
I also found a black/black stick 997.2 with 30k miles for $65k.

What would you do? Is the improvements of the .2 really noticeable?
A lot of folks on this forum will tell you the .2's are head and shoulders
better than the .1's. I've had both now, an '08 base cab and a new '12 gts cab. I don't agree that the .2 feels so much better. The main things I notice on a daily basis are the much better bose stereo, and standard
bluetooth for my phone. Depending upon your usage needs, these might or might not be important to you. I don't find the looks of the .2 to be
dramatically upgraded, and while my gts is definitely more powerful than the '08, it's not as dramatic as I would have thought. But if power is what you need, you should probably shop a corvette or a turbo. If you can get a much better deal on a .1, i'd say go for it. Keep in mind, we still don't know the long term issues of dfi.

It depends on your budget i guess. If you can afford the .2 get it, otherwise stick with a manual 08. I use pdk all the time in my 997.2 and think it's a great transmission.

Im surprised you feel the gts is not too much more powerful than the .1 base, given the 325 to 408 hp change, when everyone on this board is absolutely enamored at spending extra dough on S vs base given the relatively much smaller hp difference. Guess the porsche marketing machine works.

The torque difference is much smaller, I believe 275 vs 310.

If you were buying used, what would be the maximum mileage you would look at? 15k? 30k? I drive about 18k per year.

That is a tough questions.
Lots of people with high mileage, but you will put high miles on it anyway.
If you are going to drive it to the ground, maybe you need to look at a high mileage one anyway and have someone else "take the depreciation hit". Then you would take only preventive maintenance cost hit.

Hmm.. good point.. I will sell it in 2 years. I always do. In two years, I will most likely put 35,000 miles on it. So I guess the question is, do I pay more and get something with 15k, or less and get something with 25k. By the time I sell it, is there a big difference in it's marketability if it has 50k, or 65k? Ok, I know I'm being neurotic.

If you buy a 4 yo car with 15k mi on it, you're going to be paying dearly for the low miles. Then when you sell it, it'll have darn near 50k on it anyway, at which time it will take another big hit. I'd shoot for about 40k mi at which will give you a really good deal, and then you'll be selling it at about 75k mi, which should leave some cushion before the next big hit of 90k to 100k mi.

Not to throw a wrench in things but......have you looked at the numbers and figured how much you're willing to spend per month? If you buy at 50g and drive for 2 yrs, then sell at 25g, that's over a grand a month, especiallywhen you include maintenance and mods. You can lease some pretty killer new cars for a grand a month, even with excess miles figured in.

Found a 2009 S 911. 8'000 miles. Silver with black interior, manual for $67k. Sounds like a good deal right, especially for an S. kinda wanted black, but will be nice to not have to wash it all the time. Thoughts?
