Help please!

I got in my 2006 C4S tonight, selected revese and the the gear stick went all floppy, with the car now stuck in reverse. Any ideas please as to what it could be and how much?

Any help would be v much appreciated.

Thanks

i ll guess the linkage popped off the shifter cable(or rod)..... hopefully access can be gained from the top so it won t be a big deal... let us know... these guys here who have changed shifters could help you better.

either your shift cable broke or the linkage popped off from the tranny side. (i've never heard of it popping off from the shifter side, and if you look at the set up underneath the console, it's very hard to imagine it just coming out without completely breaking, etc.) i just broke mine a month ago (stuck in 3rd) and it was a broken cable.

upside is it's not too hard to change if youre somewhat handy and "only" a $250 part from the stealership.

first thing i'd do is take off the under panel in order to see the tranny linkage. if it isn't popped off there, then you most likely have a broken cable.
