997.1 Halogen to Bi-Xenon conversion?

I have a 2008 997.1 Carrera that came with base halogen headlights. I'd love to convert these to bi-xenons. Does anyone know what are my options? Can I simply pick up a factory bi-xenon headlight assembly (including ballast, etc) and replace the halogen assembly? Any other changes necessary?

Thanks.

It is possible but a lot of work is required. What you need is a really good mechanic who is well versed in electrical engineering. It is not a simple plug & play job.

You will only need to purchase the bi-xenon assembly. However, you do not need the ballast as it is swappable (if your 997.1 car has ballast already). Your mechanic needs to make a new pin-out (the new assembly uses 3-pin while the 997.1 uses 2-pin). In addition, you will just need to transfer your 997.1 light leveling mechanism to the new headlight assembly or else you will get error code. This is all the easy part. This step will get your 997.2 headlight to work just like your 997.1.

The hard part is getting the Dynamic Concerning Lights ("DCL") to work. You will need to purchase the new 997.2 front wiring harness and also the DCL control module to work. If your mechanic has time, he can come up with a wiring harness pin by looking at the DCL control module. After which, you will need to do the coding to tell the car you have DCL function.

So all in all its quite a big job. Easily a $3.5K job excluding labor charges.

Good luck with the project..!

i think that what he meant is, that he has halogen 997.1 headlights and he wants 997.1 bi xenons...

I have a similar interest in going from 997.1 halogens to 997.1 bi-xenons......but not for $3.5K.

easy, buy HID kits for your bulbs and convert them to any brightness, 6000k 8000k 10000k any color you want
wire in the kit ballast to your 12v wire.
$39 to $150 depending on the quality you buy

Conversions kits are not effectIve. The only thing they do is blind oncoming traffic

Not true in cars with projectors.

If you put them in a regular housing then yes.

There is a thread on Planet 9 with all the info you need. I did it on my Cayman s and it worked great, actually some of my pics are in the thread/tutorial.

Stick with 5000K or they'll be a little too blue. The Retrofit Source is a good place to buy a good quality kit. If you get something off of Ebay it's a crap shoot.

you are going to blind somebody with those things!

I agree that with projector headlights and proper levelling, you should be fine with aftermarket conversion kit.

Please post the technical details of how your product will convert a 997 with halogen headlights to HIDs. Your pictures show headlight housings only. This a thread addressing halogen to HID conversions and there is a lot of interest in this topic.

Has anyone done it the other way around? Upgrade from Xenon to halogen?

I realize the Xenon's look cool, and I'd have to give up the Litronics ( nearly useless anyway) .. but I really need better light at night,.. and the red color range makes it easier to see things at a far distance at night.

Those of you that spend time on the water know what I'm talking about. You see the red light on the red buoy at 3 miles distance,.. but have to be within 1/2 mile or so to see the green buoy next to it.

I.E. I want the blue line in the graph below,.. not the green one.

You can purchase HID bulbs in different color temperatures. The OE bulbs are 4,300K, which mimics natural sunlight when projected from your headlight. I agree that the whiter and bluer lights reduce visibility. Have you considered an HID bulb in a 3,200K color?
