small strainer in airbox?

Hi,

I wanted to know if anyone can tell me what the small strainer in the airbox does and what is it officially called? i have a 2007 4S

OKB is infamous around these parts
the only purpose I can figure is a last attempt to catch large pieces from entering the engine, or large pieces if the air filter breaks up

I'm not sure that I'm thinking of the same thing that you are. The light gray material at the bottom of the airbox is not a strainer. According to the 997 Technik manual, it is an "airtight polyamide fabric" intended to let sound out of the airbox while preventing the intake of warm air from the engine compartment.
