Can I Get a Nice 997 For $35-40k?
Why a Garage Queen is Not Desirable
Take the IMS problem. It is not generally a problem with high mileage daily drivers and those P cars that are given frequent high rev work outs. There are exceptions, of course.
There are two problems as I understand it with Garage Queens and babied P cars: (1) the seals tend to dry out and crack when a car is left parked for long periods; and (2) low RPM babied cars don't get their oil fully distributed into those locations that are harder to oil; high RPM usage fully distributes the oil. There may be other valid reasons. In Germany, the P car is normally a daily driver that cruises Autobahns to go to meetings in other cities, and is driven on the highway at high RPM. Those cars even with the earlier and very flawed intermediate shaft bearing assembly rarely break. In the US, the UK and Canada, there are many reports of the bearing assembly destroying an engine and most of the incidents that are reported on the Internet are for low mileage cars and more than a few of the unfortunates state that they "babied" the car and cannot understand why it then self destructed.

Who I get my P cars from in S. Florida
I got a message from a member of this Forum asking who I buy my Porsches from in S. Florida. I tried to respond but this Forum will not let me send a private message until I have made 15 posts. So, here is the information:
Michael Huyghe

He buys from Porsche dealers who have a trade in or a returned leased porsche. I have bought to Porsches from him and both were perfect.

Here's a link to the web site: http://www.custommotorsofsouthflorida.com/about.htm
It looks like he's got over 200 911s in his inventory - most of them are 996s.

You can ship through Michael, $800 to the NYC area, or you can fly down and drive back. My wife and I flew for only $110 each to Ft. Lauderdale from LaGuardia. Michael met us at the AP, drove us to the car, and we drove off in the 997 Cab to visit various friends on both coasts of Florida and drove back to NY 1,600 miles in two days - the kind of highway trip that a P Car is built for. By flying to Florida to pick up the car and taking a weeks vacation once we got there, the basic costs of our vacation in Florida equaled the cost of shipping the car. I had one problem with the car, it had blown a fuse that provided electrical service to the driver's seat adjustments, and when I came back through Ft. Lauderdale, Michael replaced the fuse.
He gets his cars mostly from Porsche agencies in Florida where they are turned in on trades or returned at the end of leases. He has the Porsche agency check them out and do whatever is needed to them before he buys them. He has the computer system and SW to read the DMS and a small shop that repairs Porsches.
Champion Porsche is close to his shop and he will deliver a car that you are interested in to them for a review prior to your committing to buy the car. He asks that the buyer deal directly with the Service Manager to have the check up.
How he does business is that a customer tells Michael what he is looking for and Michael will find it for the customer. I called Michael and told him that I had an itch for a Cab. A highly optioned C2 2005 997 Cab had just been offered to Michael by a customer who had his Porsche serviced in Michael's shop after the warranty had ended. Michael know this car and know how the customer had used it to commute to his work via a freeway. That is the Cab that I bought, and it is magnificent.
Most of the cars listed on his Site have been sold. Many, like mine, do not make it to the site as they are sold fast. I committed to mine within 24 hours of it being offered by the owner to Michael.
