What is a 200 cell cats ? I presume that is not part of the Gundo hack?

I went with 2" but my guy said that 1-3/4 pipe would have allowed for better fit and cleaner welding. I cannot imagine that there is a significant or noticable difference between 1-3/4" and 2". I am sure fister uses the 1-3/4" pipe for the same reasons i just said.
If you have the choice specifically request stainless steel tube versus aluminized - stainless will last longer and is consistant with your OEM exhaust. Ideally use 304L tubing and a 308L filler rod. (rep points?)

I have had mine for a couple of months now...sometimes I like it, sometimes not. Best times is at ignition, the throaty cough when letting up on gas, and pushing past 4000. I DO miss listening to the actual engine sound versus the exhaust though. My wife hates it - she calls it the "small *****" hack.....she says I dont need it!

They are a far less restrictive catalytic converter. I.e., they sound better...

SlateC2S,

Thanks for the information. My wife is not offended by a louder exhaust. She drove a 964 I owned for a while that had a Triflo exhaust with no cats. She is used to it. So, that is not an issue and I am going to go with the 2 inch pipes. I had intended to use 304. Thanks for the tip on the welding rods that need to be used. Is it common for the muffler shops to have these rods? I would assume so, if they are regularly welding stainless. I will make sure it is done right.

Now if I can figure out to give you some rep points, I will. Thanks a bunch!

Doug

This is the ultimate recommendation for a Gundo Hack. Take it.

911CT - They did a good job but were very expensive so for that reason I can't recommend them.

Might I suggest contacting Dariin @ FD Motorsports and he can do an exchange for your hack. He has cans sitting on the shelf done at his shop and ready to go. If you can be without your car while you do the exchange, that's the cleanest and in my opinion the cheapest way to go. His shop is right next to my office and when i did my hack 3 months ago, he had 6 or 7 seven sitting there ready to go. You can order them painted as well, if that option appeals to you.

My car is not a DD so I would do that in a heartbeat, but if you use your car as a DD then I can understand you going to a local shop. Just some food for thought.

Good luck!

I used to have a 964 (1990 C4) with BB Tri-Flo exhaust. I ran it for a few years without a cat, and many years with. My BB exhaust was dual-outlet, so that might be a difference. I agree that the sound was awesome. I got many many complements - even at the track. However, maybe partially due to the fact that it was a cab, the sound bothered me on long rides, or on commutes to work when I got a call for business. It was too loud for a daily driver.

I now have a 997 with the Fister mod, from Darin. I do have stock cats though, and I can tell you that the sound is perfect for me. Much quieter than my old set-up, and I drove them nearly back-to-back. I sold the 964 when I got the 997, and the Fister mod was done very quickly after I bought the car. The current exhaust is perfect - i still get a bunch of complements, my wife and I love it, it sounds like the way the car should have came from Porsche. In other words - mean stock, not a serious loud modded sound.

My BB exhaust used to set off car alarms in parking garages!

All that to say that if you really like the loud sound, you might be disappointed with the Gundo/Fister. Maybe the 200 cell cats will help, but I doubt you'll approach the old 964 growl.

Jack667,

I had the single outlet Triflow. It definitely had the "aftermarket" sound plus some. I do not recall setting off car alarms but it was a very robust sound. I sold this car recently, so it is still fresh in my mind. Once I do the Gundo mod, I will post a percentage loudness comparing it to the 964, no cat Triflow. My guess is it will be about 50-70% of the sound.

I cannot wait to get this mod done. I am going to drop by the best muffler shop in Jacksonville tomorrow for an estimate. They do alot of street rod type work and supposedly have super welders. Hopefully they will be reasonable on labor.
