Lemans...

There is probably a better place for this post, but has anyone else noticed that Porsche's stellar sales and profits in 2011-12 are also coinciding with a loss of form on track? The RSR is getting eaten alive in ALMS. No more Spyder in the prototypes. I know they're returning to lemans with an LMP1 car to go for outright victory next year (or 14' I forget). But we need to see a return to dominance of some sort.

Point is: time to convert some Cayenne/Panny dollars into race wins!! Reaffirm the roots and avoid the BMW brand dillusion that seems to court executives blinded by expanding global sales.

Well, perhaps Porsche will have the money to race now that it will be under the VW umbrella. The Audi TDI simply dominates today ( only the Peugeot Diesel has presented the real threat in recent years). Both their e-tron and super light technologies seem impressive. I think that the 6 cyl 911 will continue to have problems competing. When Porsche come out with their mid engine V-8 ( at Ferrari prices) they will be in a better position to compete.

I'm betting that Porsche is hamstrung by the sanctioning body's set of rules and regulations, although I agree that Porsche may share some of the blame by not allotting sufficient R&D euros to support the racing effort. I am afraid they have forgotten the old adage of "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday".
