I tend to like darker colors and metallics over silver. Frankly I think having silver paint was one of the big reasons I just never fell in love with my E39 M5. Yes, it looks clean for a bit longer, which has never been a big concern of mine, but waxing and polishing tends to be less rewarding, the color lacks depth. Also its very hard to touchup and get a good match.

Love the silver. I have had all the usual colours on my sports cars (black, red, yellow) But I have to say silver is my favourite now.

How long have you been looking for? It will be tough to get a car exactly the way you would spec it out yourself. So ask yourself what your priorities are. Are you pretty flexible as to interior colour, mileage and options, etc? If so , then wait for another colour.

That being said, I've had a few silver cars and I love that colour. As others have said, when it comes time to resell should be easier to find a buyer than some other colours.

I agree with not buying something hoping it will grow on you. Buy something you love not because everyone else has one. My first Porsche was a Seal Grey and I loved it.

Silver is timeless and modern... without trying. It's like a Rolex, it will never go out of style.

I've owned 3 silver Porsches, and one black.

I do not like silver.

True story........I'm ordering a 2006 cab and I'm convinced I'm going to oder LTS Lipstick red....an older red that I love and still do. Nicer than any red I've seen so what color to put with this color right.

I couldn't get away from silver and I thought of everything but Arctic was a color I vowed never to get because I thought it was too boring and I worried I'd tire of it........... and the whole world owns it to boot!. But I thought it looked best with red so in the end i ordered it. Big mistake!!

As nice as that color combo was in 2 years I was done with it....more than done.

I was truly tired of it and bored to death with it but again that's me and I knew it before I did it but talked myself into it.

I'll never do that again with a color and I don't want to see my color on every other Porsche I see.....I'll order what I like and I'll always do a PTS but I do think I'm driving my forever car! No more for me!

All the best,

Tom

Had a Polar silver 964 and loved the color and my wife has a Arctic silver Cayenne S and I like that, but my favorite is black, or dark blue.

Why buy a car in a color that reminds you of your grandmother ? Don't do it. Wait for the color you really want that reminds you of something you like.

I can tell you the black ones takes twice the effort to keep it looking good as the silver ones. My neighbor had the best quote on black cars when he saw mine: "That will be the first and last black car you will ever own." He wasn't exactly correct, but I don't disagree. Sometimes you just have to do it and find out yourself why so many people buy silver colored cars...
The above is absolutely correct 100%. Black/dark color cars are a nightmare to keep clean. No matter what you do, the paint will always look dirty...even a short drive to the store after detailing the car will make the car look dirty again. I painted a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible black once. Never...ever...again. Not only will black/dark colors always look dirty, you will see even the smallest defects, paint swirls, etc.

Silver will make your car look never as the car ages. It always looks clean and hides defects. Plus, your cabin will be cooler (which will better protect your leather and the rest of your interior. When you are looking at your car 5 years down the road and it still appears new, you will be glad you went with silver. This will help the resale as well.

Can't go wrong with silver if you plan on parking it outside full time, especially in Arizona. I have an Atlas Grey 911 and there's always an easily visible layer of dust/sand on it after parking it outside for a whole day at work.

If I could have it my way... GT Silver for sure!
