PCM 3.0 to PCM 3.1 and the Ipod
PCM 3.0 to PCM 3.1 and the Ipod
FYI-- I recently switched from an '09 to a '12 (cab to coupe) and thus got the PCM 3.1. All of the issues I had with my PCM 3.0 and ipod (battery draining, losing the place in a song and starting over on song one of the first "A" album, randomly starting in the middle of a song, PCM hard reboots, etc.), so far, are magically gone. Not a single issue. I knew there was a difference right off when the ipod stayed charged when left in the car; which is where I always leave it except when adding music. Even though P replaced the PCM in the '09 it appears there really is a basic flaw in the PCM 3.0 that was corrected in 3.1. Separately, the overall PCM 3.1 in the new series is far, far superior to 3.0. If you change to the new car you will really like what they have done.
I test drove the new Boxster this past weekend. The PCM is the same as in the new 991. It was truly outstanding and even surpasses the latest MMI Navigation in my Audi Q5. I was much more impressed with the visual benefits of the upgrade - the maps look like REAL contour maps, the road signs look like REAL signs, etc. I of course immediately asked upon return if I can get the maps and other benefits of 3.1 on my 997.2. The sales reps were polite to say they weren't sure. I think I know the real answer - if you want it so bad, go buy a 991.
