trackies tire/wheel size advice needed

I'm curious for opinions from guys who do occassional track days, is an 18" tire preferred over 19" even on a 997 ?? My challenge is that I wanted to get a second set of wheels for a new look on my car, but at the same time I want to get something better for track days. Am I kidding myself by trying to mix form with function ?? Currently running Hankook Evo's on Lobster claw rims, OEM hum drum

Those that track with 18's say they have more tire choices in that size. Maybe they are a bit less expensive as well. I am just using the OEM 19's that came with my my GT3, but I don't think 18's are preferred over 19's.

many thanks for the input...surprised we don't have more chatter on this. I've seen GT3's at track day moving to 18's which is another reason I asked. The theory goes, more sidewall etc, the lower profile tires offering more bling, less results. That said, factory spec on your car is pretty hard to argue with, there's no doubt about that. Might be a question of degrees of performance more than anything else

Most tend to prefer 18s for the reasons ScooterP mentioned.
Lots of threads on this on this site and Rennlist.

another reason for 18>19 :
most of wheel mass is on the circumference.. so smaller wheel will not only weigh less, but less inertia...
