check oil level

hi..could someone talk me through how to check the oil level using the on board computer?
I have followed the intruction by pushing the leaver next to the indicator away from me but it just takes me to Message or Service and the message reads check oil level 1/1...

turn the key all the way to the right, but do not start car. watch the center cluster under tachometer, and it will countdown from 6 secs, then show current oil level

Info below copied from the 09 owners manual. Hope this helps.

OIL Display and measurement of the engine
oil level
Conditions for measuring the oil level
1. Vehicle stationary.
2. It is important to ensure that the vehicle is
horizontal
for correct oil level measurement
to occur.
3. Engine must be at operating temperature
(at least 140 °F/60 °C).
4. Engine must be idling.

Initiating oil level measurement
1. Push operating lever forward in order to switch
on the selection field.
2. Select “OIL” with the operating lever.
3. Push operating lever forward. Measurement is
started.
4. Allow waiting time to elapse.
5. Once the measurement has been completed,
you can read off the engine oil level on the segment display.

Strange, mine requires the engine to be running, engine warm....

My 06 operates exactly at Gundo described. Turn key to the right (do not start the engine) and a count down clock under the tach appears (approximately 5 minutes if the oil is at operating temps).

Difference is between 997.1 & 997.2

The system was improved upon for the 997.2
