Certified Pre-Owned - How to Certify?

Hey everyone,

A buddy of mine just picked up a 2010 GT3 with 3,500 miles. He wants to get it certified pre-owned by Porsche, as he purchased the car from an independent, non-Porsche dealer. His new car warranty runs out 12/2013.

1. Can he get this certified at a local Porsche dealership?

2. If so, what's the cost and what's the best way to go about doing this?

Thanks everyone!

I don't think he can get CPO since he bought from an independent dealer. The car must be bought from an authorized Porsche dealer.

He would have to sell the car to the P dealer and then buy it back. I would just go to the dealer and see if he could buy an extended warranty from them. Should be cheaper in the long run.

CPO isn't as beneficial as an aftermarket extended warranty. I have them on all my vehicles and drive without concern. Everyone will have their opinions about them, but most who provide their opinions don't have them. I have purchased 4 and love them. It's probably 1/4 the price of having it CPO'd.

Can you recommend which aftermarket warranty you use?

Thanks.

No specific recommendation, but, I use Direct Buy Warranty and did on my 2001 also. I have purchased an extended for my '08 as well. If you're interested in speaking to them, PM me and I'll get you my broker's name and phone number. I have spoken to all the providers and DB has always come out ahead.

I would go to your local dealer and ask what their preferred warranty company is - why? Because you dont want to buy a warranty the dealer has problems with. I was told while shopping for my car recently that a CPO costs the dealer about 3K, which is about the same as a independent warranty company. Trust the dealer on this - you own a Porsche not a KIA.
