Newbie question - Navigation Kilometers vs Miles

Newbie question - Navigation Kilometers vs Miles
I can't figure out for the life of me how to change the Navigation from displaying Kilometers to Miles. Can anyone help me out?
Also is there a way to have the direction of Navi screen map to always display going North?
