997.2 sound so unimpressive

One of my disappointments with the 997.2, the exhaust sound it makes specially at idle. It so unimpressive. My friend has a mustang and it sounds mean, im embarassed tomstart my car beside his and the stang cost so much less. Why did porsche not concentrate n this much. It sommuch part of the whole package of the sports car experience.

You can't compare a Porsche H-6 to a Mustang V-8 exhaust note and expect to come out on top. There are plenty of aftermarket exhausts for your 911 out there, or take the easy way out and apply the "Gundo Hack" (do a search). I have heard some pretty mean sounding Porsche models (maybe not so much at idle, but sweet music going down the road).

Get an aftermarket exhaust like Tubi and then problem solved. As someone else had said, trying to compare a muscle V8 to a flat-6 is not fair. The V8 will sound better almost for sure.

I have Cargraphic Valvetronic with center muffler delete and there's no shortage of noise throughout the RPM band. The only thing that tops it is my neighbor's GT3RS.

I am in the market for a used tubi as i have heard only good things about them. I justwanted to air out the frustration. The gundo wothout the cross pipes might not be enough and as one brother said if you include the x pipe then might as well buy a second hand tubi.

I can't believe you're comparing your car to a mustang.

Porsche cars are designed for the European market, where noise is not very welcome. Most Europeans do not like to hear Mustang and Big V8 roaring while gulping tons of fuel. They value silence at night and during the day. Besides TUV would not give them an accreditation if the car was noisy.

If you cannot live with the tamed character of the 997, then maybe a Camaro or a Ford Mustang Boss should be your next car. Besides a V8 of seven liters will always give you more noise than a small 3.8 flat six.

I love the silence.

Yves

I wish my 997.2 sounded more like a AA/TF nitro-powered rail drag car at idle (not really), but it doesn't.

I'm currently on the fence about going with a gundo hack (ka-ching), or replacing the stock system with a FabSpeed system (KA-CHING!). I have a buddy who recently replaced the stock exhaust on his '12 997.2 with a complete FabSpeed system. I like it (a lot).

You could go the full FVD system with mufflers/bypass/headers/sport cats. I think someone on here did that. Maybe they'll post on their results.
