Price penalty for MULTIPLE owner C2S?
I would get what you want, make a list of the perfect car, then make a list of the car with the least amount of options you will settle for.......Living in the DFW area you'd be surprised there wasn't that many with the options i wanted in my price point......I was ready to settle and my wife told me not to. I agree with the others broaden your search the east coast and west coast are notorious for having a plethora of these cars. My neighbor found his in 09 CS2 in Florida, he had the dealer inspect it and give it the thumbs up. then he brought it back here to the DFW area for his goto dealer warranty it. I found my 07 C2 in Austin that was exactly what i was looking for. I have to thank my wife for stopping me.

I wondered about that! What WOULD keep them from doing the CPO?? The number of owners?? Starting to feel like something's fishy. The salesman is actually pretty cool...not the pretentious *** I was met with a year ago when I was in. But he did hem-ha around when I asked direct questions about CPO, PPI and previous owners. Like every dealer in the town, their cars are usually way over priced compared to other markets. So the fact this one is somewhat in-line makes me wonder what's up or if someone else maybe dug a little deeper and found it it's got issues or history.
There is an old saying: "No matter how much you polish a piece of crap, at the end of all the polishing, all you will have is a shiny turd."
I guess what I'm saying is, how many red flags do you need to see about this car before you decide to pass on it?
I could be wrong (not that I ever have been in my own past
), but if it was me, I'd save my money for a car with a cleaner history. Caveat emptor.
Whatever you decide, good luck.

I did get a call from the finance manager as I asked about an aftermarket warranty when I talked to the salesman last, since they could/would not CPO. Like $4400 bumper to bumper, $200 deductible, 3 years 24k miles. Same warranty just power train only was like $3400. Not sure who it was through but I assume it's someone they know will back it up if there's a problem.
Just passing that along. I think I've resolved to broaden my search. Even some of the 2009 C2's are getting down there now too. So who knows!
Thanks again for the advice and input.

Anyone chime in on what they paid for a warranty?
I'm guessing they know I would ask them to throw in the warranty if I made an offer...so they boosted it up to make it look like I was getting $4000 of negotiation vs. $2000 or whatever it normally costs. Just guessing!
With the warranty, they just have an additional variable to play with in terms of pricing. Again, if you were seriously interested, I'd use that as a talking point for negotiating down. They can't "hem and haw" on the PPI - you're doing that (through an independent 3rd party shop), not them. That's the last piece of the deal (i.e. my offer is content upon satisfactory PPI and DME scan).
It sounded high for a warranty, but then I've never priced one for a P car!

Does a shop have to have specific software/equipment to read the DME scan? Sorry, not familiar with the terms...is that Porsche specific? Would you have the PPI done by another Porsche DEALER or is a reputable speed shop okay?
Just to clarify, I think I've written this car off due to history. BUT...I suppose if they came down a bit AND did a comprehensive warranty AND it checked out okay I would still consider it.
Looking at the regular C2 in 09's there are a number of them creeping down into the 55k range...sounds like the BEST option. But I would indeed have to travel for it. There just isn't $hit around KC to see.

DME measures instances of rev ranges and overall duration. Scans in certain ranges are indicative of very spirited driving that may lead to mechanical issues. The PPI can be done at a reputable shop which may also be a Porsche dealership, but not the one offering the car. The dealership selling the car or the shop performing the PPI can perform the scan. Alternatively, it is my understanding is that the DME scan can be performed w/a Durametric tool plugged into the OBDI (diagnostic port). Do a Google search for "porsche DME" and you'll find a lot of info on the topic. I thought the ask on the original C2S you were looking at was high. I think its a buyers market, especially this time of year so they should move on the price. If not, the 09+ are worth the extra money. You'll most likely be looking at more CPO cars. But I'd stay w/the manual over the PDK if you are gonna keep it past the warranty. The long term reliability of the PDK is unknown. What is known is that they're a lot more expensive to service. If you're buying the car outright (no trade-in) you should be more willing to travel for the better car. It's quite common to do so. FWIW, Southwest can get you in and out of DFW from KC for less than $200 and there's a lot of inventory out here.
