To buy or not to buy...997 S w/PDK
You guys are funny. I shift 3X more often with PDK. Mind you I have the paddles, not the thumb shifters. To me, the manual is the lazy one as there are so many times you should shift but don't, and not just in shifting situations where manuals are awkward like mid corner or under heavy power with the car sliding sideways
Anyone who thinks PDK is lazy hasn't lapped Nurburgring in one!!

A sports car is just not a sports car without a proper manual. There is something about left foot involvement and the proper H shift pattern to connect you with the car - engine - and the road (isnt that the reason to get the sports car in the first place?). Yes it is more involved and you do not get to be as lazy (which gets to be a challenge in traffic and/or switching lanes/etc) - but it gives back in so many ways. Sports cars and paddles only belong at the arcades.

Manuals are preferred in classic sports cars as they are of the era. Technology changes. It's great to appreciate the past. It's a wonderful skill and can be fun, but people need to stop trying to reason its longevity. The time of the manual is done.
I love Spitfires and P-51 Mustangs, but I'm not going to take on a F-86 with it. You're witnessing the same transition in cars as once took place with the emergence of the jet age.

Do you also think that all F1 cars aren't proper race (sports) cars ;-)
The great debate continues,,,, I wanted and got a 6 spd but would not have been opposed to a PDK in the right car. Coupe was my non nego item and low miles and a light color (white, silver etc).. Again, preference. Looking used you need to make a wish list and work from there... Those prices seem low to me... There is a 40K mile maintainance I believe, maybe plugs etc... Drive the PDK on any car if that s your question and then you can decide because lots of that has to do with preference and how you use the car.
Had to pass on the 997...it is about to hit CARMAX in Tampa, 997 Carrera S Cab, black with red interior & PDK - $58.9K, 45K miles, the car was pretty much loaded...sport chrono. I was actually concerned about how under valued the car seemed to be...Nothing in particular, I am just not that familiar with Porsche, although pretty savvy WRT cars in general. If it was coming from a Porsche dealership I would have felt a little more comfortable (maybe unrealistically). I have time...thanks for all the advice...
this is a debate I have with myself all the time....I guess I am blessed to have both a 6speed and a pdk. no question pdk is the future. but at this point I really like the 6speed on the track....I want to really learn how to drive with a 6 speed on the track, really learn the nuances on shifting. A few years from now, I am sure I'll be tracking my PDK again....but not there yet. I am working on improving my skill and not my time right now.
My first opinion would be on having a cab as a dd. Without a backup camera or reverse sensing system the blind spots with the top up are pretty bad. Just traded my 06 C2 Cab (6sp) for this very reason. Anytime I had to park in a lot, I feared I was going to hit someone or something backing up. Second, I traded for an 2010 C2S coupe w/ PDK and sport chrono. LOVE the auto tranny. The sport chrono (or at least the software and selector switches) is a must for a PDK car.
