You can search for CPO cars from Porsche's website. I looked around for several months and started with the goal of getting a 997.1 but ended up with a 997.2 for all the reasons mentioned in the other posts. I live in KC and bought my 2009 C2S from a dealer in Dallas. It had every option and was CPO'd with 50k miles. I got it for right around 55k. I didn't buy it as a daily driver as I have a 2012 cayenne also but I find myself driving it a lot.

Good luck with your search!

Waking up this thread...anyone aware of any great deals on a late 997 at the moment? As of Saturday I will be car-less (selling my current ride) and on the hunt for my C2S! All input appreciated, as usual!

I have a very reliable 2008 Carrera S cab, it is a daily driver and the top is down most every day.

All right fellas, this is what I'm down to:

06 C2S, no CPO, ~$48k
07 C2S, 1 year left CPO, ~$50k
08 C2S, 1 year left CPO, ~$55k
09 C2S, no CPO, ~$62k

All cars have around 30k miles, and seem to have been cared for greatly. I am aware of the differences between the 997.1 and 997.2, however, my main goal is reliability, longevity, and enjoyment, which I'm sure all of them would bring to the table. If I end up with a 997.1 because it's a better deal I'm ok with that; I'm not necessarily going for the newest car.

Opinions on pricing and year models?

Thanks!

I am unaware of a single IMS issue after the change in early/mid 2005. Unless someone can show data to the opposite, the mid 2005 997.1 models on should be fine with the IMS not entering into the decision.

My personal recommendation would be a 2007-09 cab turbo.

Thanks...that's reassuring...however, while visiting my local dealer recently, the two cars I was looking at had had the RMS replaced due to "lack of driving" according to them. One was a 2006 C2S and the other a 2007 GT3 (which had it replaced 3 times!!). It appears that not driving a 911 can have its negative effects

Personally I'm trying to stay away from forced induction; though I admit I've always been a turbo guy. I'm not sure what the implications would be with a turbo 911 once it's out of warranty and things start breaking (more heat/stress on engine components).

The RMS is a rubber seal, not the same as the IMS bearing. Yes, they say the best thing to do is drive the cars. But, I still think low mileage is best (all things being equal) because some day you will sell and when you sell you will have that many less miles on your car. You just need to give a garage queen a once over and check and replace the fluids any seals and belts that may have dried out (something I do anyways).

I really like my naturally aspirated 997 4s targa now that it has the plenum and changed out exhaust. The reason I recommend the turbo is I think the 997.1 turbos maybe considered "special" down the road as they are the last of the Metzger engines. I think the GT3 also has the Metzger engine. Very durable and based on the GT1 engine. The turbos always seem to hold a good value lead above the naturally aspirated cars over time. I think either the GT3 or a turbo would be a great choice. I am guessing that the turbo will have a price hit when the new 991 turbo is announced later this year, because some current turbo owners may be waiting for the 991 turbo and more 997 turbos will be placed on the market. Either way what fun!!!

For a 2K difference the '07 CPO over the '06 non CPO is a no brainer. think of it, 2 years of Porsche warranty. I have a CPO and the PCM ate a CD, Porsche replaced the whole unit, which would have cost $2K anyway. Plus they replaced a rattling cat (might have been covered under the smog warranty, but not sure). They replaced my ugly/chipped temperature and fan buttons (a well known defect), plus I still have until next fall under warranty.

Perfect sense...well, I should have one of these wonderful machines within the next few days. The car I just sold was picked up today and I'm basically carless on a rental until I find my C2S!

Guys,

09 24k miles w/o warranty for $59k? or 08 33k miles CPOed for around $55k? I actually like the look and options of the 08 better, however, the 09 is very nice and it's got the 997.2 upgrades obviously.

09 is the better car and will retain a little more value over time. I had a 08 997S as well. Extensive upgrades, far more than meet the eye.
