Should I trade in my rims?
Should I trade in my rims?
I'm thinking of trading my rims at the dealership after I changed the tires. They are classic 19" I believe:
What are the usual prices if I wanted to put one of those 10-15 spoke wheels
on instead at the dealership?

But they look very nice!! Bad thing about buying at dealer, oops, stealer...is the mark up! Way over priced. Get aftermarket in same style and save money while putting the center caps with logo to finish the OEM look.
I have lobster rims and would love those type of spoke rims..very nice.

70 deg today!
I haven't tried that protectant yet...I will go to my local auto store and get a few bottles...can use on my wife's BMW 750...that will make her happy.

Keep them, they look nice and are classic Porsche if you can not afford to "add another set of rims / tires" to the collection. If you have the money , pull them of and replace with whatever floats your Porsche :-) 3-4 K dollars should do!
I wouldn't do it. Without a doubt the sport design wheels are much harder to clean.
I have the carrera classics and love them. They maybe boring to some, but it's got a pure and timeless design - IMHO. Plus they're very easy to clean, especially if you like to keep the inside of the rim clean, as I do. You coudn't get in there with the sport design wheels.

Dude, after the whole thread on NOT buying tires at the dealer, you are still going to the dealer? And now you want to buy rims for $1000/each from the dealer too? While some people like those sport design rims, if they are used from the dealer, someone probably just left them there after upgrading. Seriously, the those rims will get about $1000 a set on the used market. There are so many aftermarket choices for the same money...
Wheel Swapping 101
After having 29 cars over 15 years, I have a record 10 miles long at Discount Tire for new tires and wheel swaps. I'd hunt on eBay, and it can be a very inexpensive swap if the wheels are the identical size and you can use your existing tires. The better the deal on the purchase, the less it will cost you --- and I've actually made money on a couple of these change-outs. Once you find the set you want to buy (these are usually $1200-2000 shipped for a set for OEMs like you posted), buy them and have your trusted local tire shop swap the wheels (assuming you're using the same tires). If the tires are old, this is a great time to get a new set. Keep the boxes the new wheels came in, and use them to package up your old set after taking photos. Once you post your auction and sell them, have UPS or FedEx pick them up and send them on their way. I don't think this has ever cost me more than $500 all-in as long as I was able to use the same tires I had on the original wheels. Going to the dealer and paying $1000/wheel is just throwing money away.

Given that both of them are OEM wheels, i would go with the lighter set... In terms of looks, i like both equally, but because i am more performance oriented i would go with the lighter set...
I much prefer the Classic look of the ones you have now and I would NEVER buy OEM Wheels from a Dealer, I just bought a full set with tires shipped for $2K and mine are what I consider the hardest to find and best OEM wheels made for the 997- Be patient and buy a set someone is unloading, when I was looking I saw plenty of those for sale.
Take a drive to Culver City and visit with Dave Martin at Wheel Enhancement - he can give a good idea what your wheels might be worth and he may even have some used wheels of the ones you want. He can fix you up with tires too. They are perfectionists when mounting and balancing. Check their website - I think they're open every other Saturday.
