GT3 conversion yay or nay
my vote is 'nay'
it's your money..
but I think the best thing u can do is to stop staring at that pic of the black GT3.. get in your already-awesome sports car.. and enjoy the drive
if u still feel the same way a year from now.. go ahead and trade it in for a GT3

Thanks ya'll for your responses. I've decided (for now) to not do anything and keep the car as is. Would have been nice to continue this thread with before and after installation pics
.
Reason is 12K all in for second gen aero kit is a bunch of cash that seems to be better invested towards a GT3, should I really consider that as an option in a year or so. Just seems the most sensible thing to do at this stage.
If anyone is interested in the shop that has these GT3 parts shoot me a PM. They're in Europe but I can't imagine ground shipping should be that much more expensive than domestic US shipping, which can quickly go into the hundreds as well. Definitely better than some of these (accurate if you pay list price) 20K quotes that have been going around this forum.

This is really good advice ^. The C2S and GT3 are sort of different cars and you may not like the comparative harshness/edginess of the GT3. If that is the case, then mod your car like a GT3 and retain the more refined nature of the C2S. Insofar as future return on mods, I think, and I mean it's just my opinion, that you should mod for your own satisfaction and not for any possible increase in value. That said, if you drop $20K on mods then the real decision is whether you are going to get $20K of enjoyment out of it.
This, right here. Drive a GT3 for a day. You will lose your shirt on any mods (and most factory options also), so consider that. Or, what can you buy with your car and $20k?
I know, buy a 996 Turbo! Good luck, what ever you do.
I have been thinking about doing the aero thing for my 997 primarily so I can still take the family in the car. Cant do that in a GT3.
Also, speaking from experience...my heavily modded 996 has been money down the drain....but it is fun :-)

Yes. But I acknowledge that an aero kit would be for optical reasons. As far as GT3 goes, I don't even get anywhere close to push limits on my S. And besides 10 or so track days a year, I need a car that can cope with every day traffic.
I've done some pretty intense M3 tracking but that was when I've been working with the firm and it just wasn't my own car. Taking my puppy out on the track is just different LOL.

Not but for real the tecquipment aero kit isn't much different than first gen GT3 replacement parts. Adding an aero kit to an S or even base Carrera is not necessarily tacky IMO. It's not like I'd also be adding the full rear bumper and stick a GT3 badge on it so you'd have to tell by missing center wheel locks or seats inside that it's "fake".
Got it, I chose to go the S route and do gt3 asthetics (front bumper) after test driving the gt3 because I don't or have never an don't plan to track the car.
I think I lusted for the gt3 for a long time just because of its looks. I will always want a 993TT at heart.

Yes reminds me of old BMW 318i with M3 sticker on it. As if any half way savy eye couldn't tell. Or better yet, back in the late 90s when people bought these fake navigation shark wing antennas and stuck them on the roof so it looked like their cars had navi when in fact they didn't.

Obviously not a popular opinion on here as evidence proves but I think doing a gt3 kit on a regular 911 is like putting m3 bumpers on a 3 series. Don't care that there is a factory "aero" kit. The real seperating factor is the open diff that needs adressed.
It's fair to say that an aero kit is not for everyone.
But to play devil's advocate, a strong flip side argument here would be that any 911s expect for Turbos and GT2/3 would look "tacky" with aero kits, whether factory installed or not. That's just when personal taste comes into play.
I'm not trying to purposefully pimp a lower cost 911 to be mistaken for a GT3. If Porsche had updated the second gen aero kit then I wouldn't even have this thread open.
That said, I appreciate different points of view - I mean at the end of the day that's what I've asked for. And it saved me 12K because I realized that for me personally it's just not worth it based on some good comments here. For 5K I'd probably get it but that's not happening anytime soon unless I randomly spot spare parts.
