Need help with new GTS engine
Need help with new GTS engine
Good just bought a a brand new 2011 GTS. Had less than 1k miles on it.
I've been babying through the 2K Breakin perod. Car has 1200 miles now and I decided to give it some gas today the engine cuts off power and makes a dull "rich" sound RPM's wont rise.
I tried it a few times at different speeds, ears and RPMs.....It intermittently cuts out with no logic that I cam decider other than that I'm applying serious throttle when it happens.
There are no check engine lights , If I didn't floor it I'd never know there was a problem.
I called the 2 dealerships service advisors- both assured me not to worry that the engine and computer are just getting acclimated to my driving style. They suggested I come back in a week if its still doing it and to NOT baby the car for te remainder of the BE period.
Help!!
Ill post some pics soon.-

So you are saying that when you floor it the RPMs do not rise? That does not sound right to me regardless of the computer learning. Is the dealer suggesting that you drove like such a grandma during break in that the car is gimped until it unlearns this?
I believe if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it after a few minutes it will reset the learning function. You'll also get a few error messages that will go away as soon as you drive. There are a few threads on this.
In any case I'm curious to hear the outcome of this one.

Yep- it's like the engine is cutting off the fuel. I have a hypothesis that its maybe old gas and the computer is cutting the fuel based on old octane in the engine The car is an 11 so maybe the gas is a year or so old???

What kind of RPMs are you seeing when this happens? What kind of speeds are you traveling at routinely during the last several hundred miles?
I don't think any ECU changes are made during PDI - even the speed limit control shouldn't physically limit your speed - it just gives you a warning. Hmm...

Its under warranty right? Bring it to the dealer and let them deal with it. Personally I would not bring it to the dealer you have been speaking with, matter of fact I would call Porsche and complain. I can't beieve they said its getting used to your driving - dumbest thingy I have heard lately.
Fixed!
All fixed!!!!Ended up being debris in the fuel rail. Once they cleaned that up the car ran fine. The dealer is speculating that it could have been caused when the holes in the fuel rail were drilled/pun punched. Upon mid to full throttle enough fuel would be going through the Rail to push the debris up against the outlet for the injector. The engine would cut power noticing a problem in the injector. Oddly without any warning lights or codes. The dealer replaced the upper , then lower fuel pumps in trying to troubleshoot the problem
So happy to have my baby back after two weeks in the shop. First manufacturing defect regarding the engine that I've ever heard of in a "late" 911. I'll post some pics ASAP

If this is a 2011, then perhaps the fuel got gunked up in the tank and fuel lines? After all, it only had 1k miles on it, so that fule must have been sitting for a long time. May be, this is not a manufacturing defect?
